One Saturday about two years ago my wife came home from the library and plopped a book in my lap, and told me “I thought you would like this”. I began to read it and wouldn’t you know when I finished it the next afternoon I had a new mission in life… To road race my Model A! The book she brought home was The Hot Rod, by Brock Yates, it’s the story of “ The Eliminator”, a 23 Ford T road race car built by Duffy Livingstone and raced against Ferrari, Jag, Lotus, Porsche etc. The commitment to the build was simple as I had just finished the Legion Spl. with Kirk! and I live 15 min from Infinion Raceway, or Sonoma Raceway, as its now known. The pics are self explanatory so I won’t bore you with the step by step, but the goal was to build a car I could race in the vintage class. As I got a little further into the build I decided to scrap the SCCA legal roll bar and go with an NHRA cage so I could drag race and run at Bonneville, and who knows maybe Pikes Peek. Why limit myself, right? As far as the parts list I began with a 57 Olds rear end with 411 gears and posi and some old drilled backing plates. The front end is 54 Corvette drums I drilled to match the rear and made some scoops for them. The engine is a 289 stroked to 331 with down draft Webbers, a Joe Hunt Magneto, a re-pop set of 32 rails and a formerly very nice 30-31 roadster body. Enjoy the Mess!<p>
Your going to love the 331. The Tremec can be a little notchy, but should be strong enough. Nice job on the chassis and the cage. Gonna need some shielding and ceramic wool or the like around the exhaust, but a very elegant design. Shoud be a hoot to drive. Mike
!!! Holey Moley, That looks incredible. I keep that book at my dad's so I always something good to read when I visit.
Effin sweet! I like the outside of the norm builds here! Great start !!! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I was waiting for that question. Because I am running a belly pan and a floor there is no room to squeeze 2.5 exhaust under the car, because of the 12" setback, the roll bar, the oil filter, and master cylinders, not to mention the hood. I was really left with few choices. since Im closing off the passenger side Of the car it just seemed like the best placement however unorthodox. the plan is to exit out two holes in the frame.
