cool build. quite often when people build a dedicated race car they sort of lose the 'feel' of a traditional hotrod, not so with this one you nailed it! but we've come to expect nothing less from you. great work oh and i'm guessin the theme for this build is "holes" those backing plates look like swiss cheese
that cage should be legal for SCTA, has duouble tubes above the head per last years rule change as well. Cool build. Hans

Very cool project. I'm in. I'm SO glad to see your build starting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to hijack badly, I'm planing something along the same lines, but it will be a street car, a 2+0 coupe. Sort of a vintage sports rod "GT" or Grand Touring Hotrod-O. LOL Just a couple FYIs: A few years ago, Brock was the grand marshal at the Lake Mirror Classic in Lakeland, FL. It was a few years after The 184 was restored, Pebble Beach, the book, etc. and I got to speak to him for a short time. But... he DIDN'T bring the car! I was so bummed. Also, I emailed a fellow in the NE last month about a new group he was forming to race vintage specials. But he was pretty narrow minded about it, no clones, or new construction cars. Bummer. Gary

That's so awesome! Congrats. I'll be following this with great interest. I'll be heading to NJMP in a few minutes to watch the Vintage Racing event going on this weekend. I've been thinking seriously about how to get into this with some kind of American hot rod so this build really lights my fire. If I read the rules for eligibility, it seems it would fit into this, maybe with a little bit of smoozing the VR Technical Committe which I'm prepared to do: 2.2.2. Special: A car built in extremely limited numbers, often one of a kind. Normally a unique combination of chassis/body/engine. May be eligible in VRG sports-racing class if all major components (engine, running gear, body, chassis) were manufactured prior to the cut-off date, and approved by the VRG Technical Committee.
Another race totally open to your racer is the Mexican Road Race, La Carrera Panamericana. In 1954 Ak Miller drove a special called El Cabello Hierro, The Iron Horse. This is a great race run over 7 days. I've done it my 1954 Alfa Romeo. I wish I was young enough to do it again. I love what you are doing.

I have ideas in a distantly similar vein, for which I'm collecting parts and working up drawings and models; in the early mockup stages now. Not A-based, a purpose-built frame borrowing '30s parts and design elements maybe a bit more Brooklands than hot-rod. Not worth saying much more about it until it's actually sitting on four wheels and I need some clue what to do about a body. Your exhaust plumbing arrangement is worth stealing, though
