As much as we feel your pain, it really ****s that you post a picture like that with a one liner about parking it and don't elaborate about the story. Least you can do is tell us what happened. Otherwise, the thread is pretty pointless. Don
You know, that's exactly what I thought about three posts before I got to yours. I had cars get smashed up worse that that parked in my own yard, and had a great story to tell about it, good or bad the outcome. Cliff Ramsdell
This has got to be a joke. The headlamps aren't shattered, busted, broken. Turn signal lenses are fine. Windshield fine. Think this was photo shopped?
Nope, it didn't happen sitting where it is in the photo. You rear ended a pickup, didn't ya? Either way it ****s and I'm sorry bro. It looks like it was a really nice car. Respond to Pork n ****** about what you need. Maybe your fellow HAMBers can help you scrounge parts.
It was hit while parked in front of his house. Its a shame, it is a truly beautiful 57. He is already hunting parts to get it repaired. Im so bummed for Sam but I know he'll get her going again.
after i picked my jaw up off the floor all i can say is HOLY ****! i know they say thats what insurance if for but HOLY ****! that is terrible. money cant replace this stuff. WOW!
SO sorry to see that. All I have to spare are rear quarters. Mine is far from stock. Hope they were well insured.
Ouch! Sorry to see this! I hope it (and you) get well soon! After seeing this, it's easy to understand why car manufacturers were mandated to add safety pins on hoods to keep them from launching into the ****pit on impact. Anywho, get her well soon!
If this happened to one of my old cars I would be in jail and the idiot who done its family would be planning a funeral.
This is not photoshop, I only wish it was. The driver was a dear family member who is worth more to me than all my cars put together. It was an accident-they happen. I am the dumb-*** that forgot to increase my insurance limit this spring. I do not want it totaled, I could buy back but she'd have a salvage ***le. I want to acquire some parts so the adjuster doesn't base replacement parts based on some whacky e-bay prices. I have been stockpiling parts just in case of an event like this. I have good inner fenders, a core support, re-chromeable spare bumpers and grill. I have lots of stainless. I have found some sorta-kinda rust free fenders but they aren't as nice as the originals (were). So if I can find some close to cherry fenders I will be much happier. The HAMB is a great community, thanks for all the well wishes and offers of help. I will try to keep you posted on progress (or lack thereof). P.S. The other vehicle was my late model driver. : (
That really ****s but since the car is probably a keeper and will most likely never get sold I wouldn't worry too much about it having a salvage ***le. It isn't quite like buying some five year old car off a curbsider and then along with finding that it has a salvage ***le finding that it is actually two cars spliced together with parts from eight more. Keep us posted on what happens.
That totally ****s! I'm always curious...why is a salvage ***le on our old stuff a big deal? Sometimes I'm sure that's all you can get, and we tear 'em all apart anyway.
As far as the value of the car for the at fault insurance company, many states charge sales tax on the book value of the car. That would be a good starting price, If it is good enough for the state, it should be good enough for the ins. co.
Holy ****!!!! Sorry about the car man. Since you say the driver was a dear family friend...how is he or she?
Sorry to see that. Hope it wasn't the wife, it would be a long quiet span at home before I could get over that. Hope you the best on getting it repaired.
Man all I can say is sorry and I am headed to Hershey in two weeks would be glad to look for parts for ya . Pm me if ya need help.
a friend of mine's 55 chevy got rearended in front of his house in the middle of the night. drunk driver took off. he was found. no insurance. it ****ed.
Looks like it got hit high enough so the frame did not get hit? That would be good, rather that have the frame rack the body shell. Just grasping for some good thoughts, that's all. Good luck with the repairs, you will get it going again.
I was once at a friend's place near Echo Park Lake. We heard a loud bang and shrugged it off. When I got ready to go home my pickup was gone. In its place was a Ford Sedan with the front end smashed in. I followed a trail of debris downhill, as all the houses in the area are on a grade. I crossed the street and there's my pickup hanging in the air a few feet from topping into one of the buildings next to the lake. I had a wrecker pull it out to the street and was able to drive it, broken and smashed as it was, back home. The police ran the plates on the car and it was registered to someone in Long Beach who claimed to have sold it a few days beforehand. No insurance and the city towed it. I got to learn a new word 'illegals'.
