    Thanks, Al. Pretty exciting. The Ford rain keeps falling from the sky. I picked up a 15-year old freshly rebuilt little 6-bolt bellhousing 260 V-8 today, for free.Being a bit green behind the ears, I"d no idea that 6 holer's existed???? It may find its way into a Falcon, but I'm wondering what may be a good choice for a slightly lumpy little bumpstick, that will just perform niecly on the street with a little 500 cfm carb. Any suggestions????

    Dale your saying you have that little camshaft and wonder if it will work with the 260 and 500 carb in a falcon? If so,it will depend on the specs that make the lumpy, the 260 will have no compression and even less with much lumpy idle cam and no rear gear will equal no fun as a driver. Alot of variables, best to wait until your ready to use it and know what your car, trans, gear etc. will be, in mean time get specs on cam if you dont have them.....Hope this helped......Al

  4. Dale, cool that you get to build the 66 project. Hope you do a build thread on the comet central forum. If you where closer I would give you some parts(cam and heads) for the 260.

    Dale; Did you say you picked up a 6 bolt Bellhousing for a 260 ci small block! I never seen one because all 221's,260's & 289's up to 1964 model year are 5 bolt Bellhousings. The flywheel, clutch & starter are Differant then what the 6 bolt Bellhousing that came out in 1965 model year. Everything else will work fine.
    There is not a lot of 5 bolt 289 ci blocks around for the 210 & 271 hp even the 5 bolt Bellhousing for the 221-289 is hard to find these days. Dale check it out again to be safe. ~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~

    Roy I think you went from being a driver to just a car owner, if she could only reach the pedals! Thanks for the help today.

    Well!!! Two month's of playing around with styles and patterns with Vince Mayeda Motorsports, and DJ Safety, and we have a Retro-themed SFI-rated sportsman style race jacket, in the correct off-white Nomex Fabric!!! It's BITCHIN!! This jacket should over a short time patina to what we have always seen in the vintage pictures- that slightly yellowed, slightly sooted look. I also am having them make a smaple out of the ""wheat"" color Nomex material that was used as well. But, this one will turn more of a light brown over time. If it goes well, we'll be able to order a small quantity, have a small assortment of stripe colors, and DJ said they could embroider names as well!! Waddaya think?? No more BLACK, RED, or BLUE Proban cotton!!!

  12. Dale that jacket would go great with my polar white comet.

    Has anyone ever stumbled onto a combination using just the stock bore and displacement on a 351 Windsor, without having to stroke it? Like, if you had a pristine bottom end, but spent the dough on the cylinder heads? It seems like everyone leans towards stroker combos, I totally realize why, but, I'd like to find something that utilizes an unstroked combo. Thoughts? Ideas??

    Dale;how does 726HP sound for a +.030 351W?That is what John's Falcon made when it was run on the dyno being broken in!The engine is stock stroke,+30 over bored,fully ported Edelbrock heads[old school],big solid roller cam,around 14 to 1 compression,ported Edelbrock intake,reworked 950HP,MSD ignition,custom built stepped headers,engine was designed and built by a Mopar builder out in the high desert area.This was built before all the great new style heads were available or the Edelbrock/Glidden intake was out,it is also based off of an "OLD TRUCK BLOCK",not some trick aftermarket block.The mostly steel,except hood,Falcon runs mid to high 9s on a 28X10X15 tire,through a Jerico,clutch type four speed!On a side note,DF would not let him play at last years MOONEYES A/FX show because "Small Blocks Have an Unfair ADVANTAGE",WTF?!!!     Guys;
    That what I like about small blocks against small blocks not small block against medium or big (385) blocks. Hell next we will be running Twin Turbo's like the one I got rid off a couple weeks ago. It did 6.95 ET @ 201.0 MPH Street Legal the Mike Moran's Casper Car.
    Back when we started racing these type cars, we had to run the original type Motor that came in the car. At first they had to be Factory Race Cars not 6 cyl cars with 427 FE's. If you wanted to run something Differant type that didn't come in that years car. Take it Back over to the Bracket Racers Class!! Running a 65 Comet with a Boss 429 doesn't make it a AFX Clone.
    Guys don't get upset I am just speaking what I think. I been in this from when it started in the early 1980's. ~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~

    Thanks Roy, sounds like I should MORE than be able to accomplish what I want with that motor I'm taking up to Ben Alameda to see what we can do with it. I think it stands at 12.5-1 with the old original iron heads, exciting times ahead... Heck, I just want to runa bit slower than you!!

  22. On facebook there is a page called dearborn flashback. Someone posted 3 pics of a 64 comet wrecked at the track. I asked him to post on this thread. The name on the car was Golden comet. On the door was Pointe Auto-matic St. Clais Shores. Hopefully he posts here.

    Dale;12.5 with big chamber heads is a BIG dome on the piston, varying ideas on the flame travel with a big dome,I'm sure Ben well get some big HP out of that engine. You might talk to Ben about using a Dominator friendly manifold, the reason I went that way is because they ran out of air when John's 351 was on the dyno, had plenty of fuel, but needed more air.I used my old heads and cam in the theory it would hold down the HP,I think my old brain worked well on that idea!!! 10.3s to 10.4s are perfect!!! ROY.

    Al;Thank You!! I basically wanted a car that would run 10.40s-10.50s in the heat as I would like to run D/GAS[10.60 index],so you need a little left!! They run D/G on a 4 tenths pro tree and you can breakout.I need to work on my reactions to a pro tree and racing the finish line!! ROY.

    We cracked open the engine at Ben's shop, and were happy to find beautiful, unmolested cylinder bores with most all metal surfaces in very good shape after a FORTY YEAR HIBERNATION !!! The potential of this motor will exceed my numbers I want to run the car at, but I need to invest in a new set of aluminum aftermarket heads with more flow potential. The heads we pulled off are indeed very well, prepared, but, in my car will add some extra weight onto the nose. The Norris valvetrain, cam, roller rockers, roller lifters are all pristine and brand spanky new!! The engine shows zero signs of any coolant even! Where else could you find a combination like this??!! Hopefully, it will show a set of truck rods when he pops the pan off, and at that time, I think we are golden.

    Dale;not trying to burst your bubble but,I think all 351W rods are the same!!! I hope I am wrong on this! I NEVER had any rod or bearing issues with any of my SBF engines,so not sure I would worry too much about rods!! You need to post your new shirts on here!!! ROY.

    The pro tree and finish line chase are tricky but makes for a challenge and for some fun....Main thing I try and do is stay focused and your experience will get you there!....Good Luck again at CHRR....Al
