With all of the people spending crazy money on high clearance wheels (Divco's, Milk Truck Wheels, etc.), one would ***ume that they are on cars out there somewhere. Please post up your pics. I did use the search function, but just came up with identification information and a lack of pics.

    Thanks,
    Mitch

Sure, didn't somebody just dig this up for $300?

They're out there but they're pretty darn rare...even the repops I've only seen in photos.

I've got two and I know of a couple more guys up in the NW that have 2 a piece. [IMG]

The two examples you've already posted almost created the "divco" movement by themselves. What I haven't seen someone produce yet is an old bonneville photo showing a car with four of em' on a single car(and I'm not talkin streamliners or belly tanks). I've only ever seen one old photo where somebody took the time to throw a hubcap on. Its this one of the Jim Khougaz roadster.

I would love to see what a hot rod looks like with a set of KH 18" wide five wheels!

There is a sweet 36 roadster that pops up at the LARS with a set on the rear.

There are quite a few cars out there running some high clearance wheels.

I would say one of the more well-known car, or cars, are 2 of Paul Gommi's deuces.

You're in luck...wasn't looking like I did at first. These are from 2010. The car was a bit different this year.

These wheels were used for field and unpaved road use, right?

It was never a fashion accessory like today. They served a specific purpose for race cars back in the day, then something better came out. Which is why they all but disappeared.

People are interpreting history when they put 18's on drivers.

The wheels and tires on the black '33 3w came from this truck, which is (was?) owned by a hamber.

Precisely.. And milk truck wheels were one of the easier ways to get more rubber out back and go faster.

Personally, I love them. I think they're great looking, but I can see what you mean. This is one of those things from back in the day that not everybody is into. Like spotlights or those "scoops" or "gills" (whatever they're called) on some kustoms.

I'm with a couple of the naysayers. I don't think they're all that attractive. Their applications for racing faded as manufactures of all types of custom lightweight wheels came to the forefront of utility and popularity. If you page through most of the old (even the little books) custom and hot rod magazines, you're hard pressed to find a featured car with those wheels unless it does double duty. These Divco/etc wheels began to show up again several years (less than ten) back and because of their uniqueness, started a new fad as guys that were tired of the same old stuff began to acquire and install them on their cars and/or new builds. In my mind, they're just another fad and the current demand will diminish with time and we'll be back to painted solids, period mags, chrome reverse with baby moons or spiders and full spun aluminum Moon Discs. But, that's just my opinion, and I've never been one to rush to the 'new best thing' of the day.

  27. So....does this mean that all those old Crown Vic police cars I see running around with goofy *** wagon wheels and O-ring tires are traditional?

Also, you could run taken off (pit stop) indy car tires with a higher speed rating without having to buy the big money 18" halibrands of the day.
