Would you use these for a shift knob?

Up for sale is this rare collection of period-correct early-50s Heidelberg beer cans I found while digging in the yard. Original Milwaukee steel! These should clean up nicely and make great shifters. Ran when parked—er, I mean, held beer when buried. $300 :D

It shouldn't be on the car if it's not functional, right?

So if you are going to include a tap handle, it must dispense something.

    - Windshield washer fluid?
    - Nitrous oxide?
    - Smoke screen - oil jet into header collectors?
(And now my personal favorite idea:)
    - Alcohol injection! It's not quite MW50, more like MW5 instead, but it's sure to quell detonation as your engine makes a heroic dig in a race for pinks!

A bud of mine broke an axle in his '29, so he borrowed his wife's Chevy Volt (!)

He dropped by to pick up an axle from me, and I japped him about his ride.
He said 'Look at the shifter'... It looked like a beer tap, but it was an i-phone.

He said, "It's an Obama phone. That's why it's red..." He said he bought it from some unfortunate guy for cash... It fit perfectly.

I made this one to replace the POS knob that came on my Lokar shifter. It's a '46 pickup Bakelite knob l polished. The button is a Bakelite dash knob from a '36 that I turned down to fit the hole I drilled in the knob... View attachment 1751987

    I pressed send too soon...sorry.

I meant to add that we used to use small Coors beer cans for knobs in the early/mid '60s. I think they were 6oz. cans.
Back then they were pretty cool, but drinking and partying was a lot more acceptable then, too...

I used a black forklift knob in a 1939 Ford I used to drive to work and back.
The more comments I read here the more tempted I am to go out and find one of my old beer tapper knobs for the 55 Chevy wagon.
I'll bet if I did half the old cars in Florida would be havin them by spring.

Ya know, if ya ever get pulled over on suspension of DWI, that shifter is NOT going to help the situation. Kinda like wearing a t-shirt with a pot leaf on it. Some things just beg for trouble.:D

Hey I've still got one of these. And an airplane wirrly gig thing for my RV awning. A lot of good beer was drunk, drank, consumed to get those cans.
The first hat was way too heavy. No one told my wife we had to empty the cans first.

    Hand painted Eyeball shift knobs.
I'd imagine these are too stupid for this crowd, though, but they may spur on the debate about what's right and wrong;)

Back in the day (...and I'm old enough to remember first hand) I had a box of tap handles and other goodies (including grenades and a wooden billy club) to screw on the top of the tall shifter in mt "A". From time to time I'd screw on a different handle just for grins. That's what it was all about - grins. I didn't give a crap what anyone else thought and more important, I didn't need five pages of comments from other guys to tell me whether of not it was cool. I still don't!

    Perfect.....

This is the way it was. It was more about fun that what the "crowd" thought in regards to how a guy built his car or what kind of shifter he had.
It was far different in the '50s/'60s.

I still have a couple taps... View attachment 1752259

Along with the (open container?) beer can shift knob, put a big marijuana leaf decal in the back window, right next to one of the Zig Zag man, and run Blue dots to attract the man's attention!

I asked a girl wearing a t-shirt with Che on it if she knew who he was. She thought Che was the Zig Zag man!

In this perfect world we live in now only a few of us still enjoy a few grins, giggles, and fun. I lived in the 50's and never left.
As for the five pages of comments, I think it's mostly guys like us having fun. Excuse me while i go out and look again for that old beer tapper or my flying eyeball. Someday I'll tell ya about camping SW of Burlington. :D
