150 2dr wgns middle(quarter) windows don't roll down, 210's do. They never built "2dr" VC(V8 Bel Air) wgns. Nomad only
I once read back in the 70s that Chevrolet was planning a retractable roof for the Nomad but they dropped the idea out of concern about water leaks. The rear lift window always had leakage problems (the Corvette Nomad had a rear powered window that went into the tailgate).
I read the same thing back in the same 70s! Nomad lift gates leak because the drip rail is below the top of the lift gate. I once looked at a '56 Ford Parklane (Ford's answer to the Nomad) and the drip rail was on the roof above the lift gate, not an inch below the top as it is on Nomads. That, and the fact that the torsion bars that help support the lift gate, over time, straighten the lift gate so that it no longer follows the contour of the body.
My Dad built a '56 210 handyman. He even had personalized plates that read "NO NOMAD". People still come up to him at shows and say, "Nice Nomad".
according to the "chevrolet chronicle" thats all the 56 body styles. in the early 90's i was working at an auto parts store. a regular customer comes in all exited. wants me to come outside and look at his 55 "nomad" he just bought. it was a really nice two door wagon. i didn't have the heart to explain that it wasn't a nomad. he paid good money for it too.
that never ceases to amaze me. By the way, my first car was a 55 Nomad and I still kick myself for selling it (30 years ago)
The liftgate not following the contour of the body was the thing I remember about my Nomad. When I washed it, I was very careful not to let water get in there. Of course the hard part was when it rained. There was no room in the garage to park it so I would put a plastic cover over it when I wasn't driving it.
I was able to fit in some garage time this evening. I was able to get the front end sheet metal removed, I would like to get the motor and ****** out some time this week. So far no surprises with the body, and the frame looks very solid.
