Not a reenactment, the ammo is canister shot. When its fired out the cannon the wood holding it together breaks away and basically becomes wide spread anti personal weapon, like buckshot for a shotgun.

 

I know this is kind of a really long shot but if anyone has shots of mechanic/repair/gasoline stations from Texas could you post them? Im looking for my great grandfathers shop he had here in Texas and we have no shots of the place and it would mean so much to my 75 year old grand father to see it and his dad again. I dont expect any miracles but I have hope!

This picture was taken June 10, 1964, when people lined both sides of Chandler street to catch a glimpse of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was in town that day to give the commencement address and receive an honorary degree at the College of the Holy Cross.

Security around the city was tight after LBJ's propeller-driven plane touched down about 9:40 a.m. at Worcester Airport.

President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated seven months earlier in Texas.

The motorcade was escorted by Worcester police and protected by an entourage of Secret Service agents. Some of the president's security personnel rode in an open convertible behind the presidential limo.

Police estimated that about 750,000 people lined the six-and-a-half-mile route from the airport to Holy Cross.

Mr. Johnson was running for election as president that year and would beat Republican Barry Goldwater in November.

 

I know he had one in the west Texas town of Plains and then had one here in Fort Worth

 

My other Great grandfather was a one of the police escorts for JFK the day he was shot and when LBJ came to visit. He might be in that shot some where.

Gary, thanks for posting these old drive-on restaurant and lunch-counter menues. I think DueceDon enjoys them as much as I do, maybe more. To me, it's fascinating what the value of a dollar used to be!

My now 84-year-old dad used to bust his ass working at our township garage. He could drive/operate ANYTHING, FIX anything, and weld anything that broke. He often brought home less than $80 a week, but our household of six did fine, never lacked for food or decent clothes, always had a car, and the kids made good grades and always had nice birthdays and Christmases. Like so many people on this thread, obviously, happiness for our family wasn't measured in dollars. The thread keeps fresh for me just how rich we were in the things that really mattered, back then.

Isnt that the Chrysler Turbine car in the background Raceron? I know it wasnt practical but I really wish they would have made that car.

 

Yes, it is, I think they were about '63 or '64. I saw a grainy video of a bunch of the Turbines that had been built but were going to the crusher. If I can find that video I will post it here. I don't know much history about them other than what I've heard & seen here on the HAMB. There might be more on them on that other thread I listed, or maybe others have more to offer.

 

If I recall they fixed a lot of the problems that came up from them such as heat and they would run on anything that was flammable including alcohol and turpentine. If I recall the Government banned/axed the project, I know they where building turbine version truck well into the 70's
