Hey, guys, I could use some help in finding my just-bought '51 Stude Starlite Commander cpe. It was stolen sometime between yesterday 10/03, & about 3days ago, from 218 NW 5th Ave, Hallandale, FL. Guys' name is Sean, @ 323/359-1731. Or the Hallandale FL police @ 954/457-1400, case # 12-36029. Or me @ 651/724-8032. Cops think it got hit for scrap metal, was on a 4-wheeled tow dolly that had the tires flattened. Whole thing got grabbed, along w/a 55 t-bird top Car is gray primer, w/o any windows, no engine/trans (was set-up for chev) & most trim pieces are in boxes inside car, as was a set of new seats - blue/wht. I'm in FL keys @ moment, w/very limited hamb access. I'll be in FL for a couple of days . TIA. Marcus...
Like was said before watch Craigs list and I would call all metal recyclers in the area and tell them to be on the look out.
Great advise. This wasn't a running/driving car and whom ever took it is looking to scrape it. Get the area recyclers on the phone ASAP!
Thanks for the help so far. Cops were already hitting the recycling yards, weight-scales, etc, after situation was explained to them by Sean. Hallandale, is just S of Miami, for some that may not know. Damn-near perfect-metal '51 Stude starlight coupes are a rather rare thing, & rarely seen. Even rusty, they aren't common. I'm thinking this thing has to be in someones' garage, unless it's quartered & crushed already. ;( . I don't have any pics, except from the ebay ad, & those are not on the laptop. Sean may have some yet, incl from it's prior incarnation as a "street rod", but he's not on the HAMB. Metal-wise, this thing was so straight, it was darn-near scuff-&-paint. No rot, rust, or dents.Anywhere - fenders, rockers, floors, etc. Which is why I bought it. The front fender vents were leaded in, but all the vent mechanisms were left intact. Dash was not bolted in, etc, as it had a small fire in the front passenger seat, no real damage to the metal, but the entire interior was stripped out for clean-up, & Sean had packed it back in for me for trailering. Sean does have the serial #. I know it's a long shot, but was hoping someone heard something thru the grapevine, or some such. Or knew someone who had/has "connections". Hoping it gets found before I leave fl, but after would be nice, too. Sean is working w/me to make this right, but I'd rather have the car & parts back, unf---k'd up, rather than the $$$ back. Again, TIA. Marcus...
Something like that gets stolen you have to hit the scrap places right then and there with photos. Was I stealing that kind of thing I'd be planning to take from you and go right to the scrapyard, unless I had like a container I could fill.
Im in Central Florida. Also Sumpter county swapmeet this sunday, I will be there and people come from all over the state. I will keep my eyes open. As soon as you can get some pics up.
^^^must be the Apple iPhone 5 maps app that moved it!.. here's another bump for ya. I sure hope this gets found....
Hey, Skirv, Thanks for the correction. After I posted, I noticed the mistake in location. Still no news on car. TIA, for those who may be looking. Marcus...
i feel your pain i had 2 cars stoled from me in 1969 55 nomad and 64 ply sport fury 383.still feel the pain after all these years...hope you get it back the low life cought and his arms and legs broken .
Yup, sickens me to think it, but yea, it sounds like some complete low-life scrapper FUCKING DOUCHE has taken it.
Scrappers are the worst. I mean, I do it every now and again, but it's stuff I collect over time, from parting cars or other things. I don't go around with a beat ass truck, digging through others people's trash to find things to scrap. No initiative, these assholes.
If they aired up the trailer tires and towed it off it was someone who had either been there before and checked out or someone who had driven by there more than once. They had to show up prepared to air up the trailer tires and get the hell out of Dodge before anyone showed up. Someone stop and check it out lately? or have you seen the same truck that isn't from the neighborhood go past slowly more than once lately?
Mr48chev; I don't live in Hallandale, never been there, 'till a few days ago, & w/luck, only have to be there once more to deal w/this fallout. I'm from MN. Skirv; Thanks again for the help. Marcus...
It has gotten really bad. A family moved in near our place in Kentucky and the dad sends his kid around scrounging on peoples property picking up scrap. I work out of state and am not there all the time and when the neighbor called him on it he cussed her and called her everything in the book. Then he came back when my wife was there and he tried to charm her (almost worked too-she's a sucker for kids). I told her to call the sheriff. I mean digging through the trash is one thing, but it's pretty low down using your kid that way...
Sorry to hijack the thread with my previous post. I hope you find your stuff soon and these clowns get their just due!
This really sucks. Hope you can find your car. Car thieves should be dealt with like they use to deal with horse thieves in the past; string them up!!!
