I lived in Ft Worth and San Antonio. Fort Worth has a strong Hot Rod community and well organized. Many events.

San Antonio has many hot rodders who drive their rods as daily drivers but not as organized as DFW. Its harder to find out where the next show is.

No problems with the cops or locals here.Often while at one of my friends shop the cops come by just to talk. I have spent hours helping him or BSing with my pickup parked in the alley and they don't say a thing even if the neighbors complain. Our biggest challange is keeping our shops warm with the cold winters. Rod

Did i miss something ? doesn't say the LAW is after him, I too live in small town somewhere. I drive the shit out of my model A! but people look at you like you are a freak! If i had the barge SUV with getto wheels i would fit in...go to a local car show and the cars are "overdone" billet and '90s pick-ups and mini vans in the show.
I think he is asking where can he go where his model A coupe "fits in"

i live in the south, just outside a very small town.i have my house and shops on top of a small mountian on a rural road.i use my 300ft driveway for a dragstrip.and in the road in front of my house.i drive alot of cars to the small store about 4 miles from the house without tags on them.atleast till im done with them.i also ride a bike there without a helmet and with drag pipes. its loud! and ive been stopped a bunch of times. ive got long hair and earrings and i braid my beard.and i wear sunglasses at nite (have to).and ive never been givin a ticket or had anyone complain to the law or to me.im the only biker / hotrodder for miles and miles.ive got credit at this local store that doesnt give credit.i think its alot of how peple perceive you.when im at the store on a bike or in one of the cars i talk to the people who ask questions and im not a smartass with them. i try to kid around with them and show them that im not what they thought id be.and it has worked.ive spent time talkin to old farmers and their families who are lookin at my stuff.ive even been told where a old car or bike is sittin by these people.not long ago i was at the store and a small kid was lookin at my wagon. he was going nuts over it and his mom told him not to bother me. i told her its no bother. then he wanted a ride in it and i asked her if it was ok to take him down the road and back and she told me to be very careful. id never met these people before this. i took him about a mile down the road turned around and got the wagon burnin the tires. when we got back he had a smile on his face that went fromear toear.and his mom seemed to be happy too.(maybe because i came back with him lol).anyway this is a long version of how im dealing with a area thats not hotrod minded or harley friendly.even the cops just tell me to take the car home or get a helment on.im as friendly with them as i can be.it has worked for over 20 yrs.i aint movin. to much stuff to pack.

Frown back. All of us here frown upon ghetto spinner wheels and billet. "Forgive them Big Daddy, for they know not how much their cars suck". Is there more to this than moving somehwere to enjoy a Model A? It sounds like there is. Just askin...

Independence, Missouri and Wichita, Ks, especially the North end. Very blue collar/ high machine skill towns with cars to match.

I see from you profile you are retired. Do you have family? Are you married? What kind of climate do you like? Do you need a low or no tax state? There are so many choices and so many factors before making a decision like this and it is one that I have been facing for the past couple of years. And believe you me the decision is not easy. I know that when I move I'll have to rent a workshop - too many cars, too many projects which is as much of a curse as it is a blessing. A lot of stuff has to go simply because I'll never get to it and it is therefore dead stock. Then, if you have a 'significant other' their needs, wants are going to have to be taken into consideration - happy wife = happy life. 'Where to retire' magazine may be a start.

Ultimately, thanks to the power of the HAMB I figure that wherever we go there will be like minded hot rodders and I can find a new bunch of sickos to go play with;). For us it boils down to climate, cost of living and environment. Sure there are hot rod friendlier areas but you can have fun with hot rods anywhere as long as you are minded to do so. Just don't be an ahole on the street and the law will mainly leave you alone - especially if you are an older guy and look responsible. In my experience cops tend to be more kindly disposed to hot rodders and more interested in the ride than ticketing you for some infraction....

  24. Sound more like an issue on how people percieve you than a hot rod issue. I have been in Louisiana since 1973 and have had no issues with my hot rod being accepted. Most people enjoy seeing them.

This is what I was thinking, somebody needs to educate the girly men. We the grimy/greasy few have to do our part! Park right in the middle and grin at the stiffnecked barstards. Some of them will come around. Overlook the rest.:D

Lake Havasu City, AZ. A bunch of Rod clubs, many cruises and shows and great weather. Pretty hot in summer but perfect in the winter. In the winter the Man is usually busy hassleing all the smoking, hot college chicks enjoying their spring break.

  29. Again thanks for the good ideas, and for those who wanna be judgmental well not so much. I am just lookin for a place where people live Hot Rods everyday, ya know, not the poser scene. Like I said in the beginning probably the Austin San Antonio
    area

  30. Seguin cops are pretty cool as long as you ain't rolling on 26's. The day sargent is a car guy and he understands our needs to smokem' every now and then. We have lots of hot rodders in this little town and all around the area in general.
