The engine (at least one of them) was built by Bones Balough and is the same one that was put in the Willys.

All of his cars were absolutely spotless, down to the very last detail.

I was lucky too. I got to race Bones one Sunday afternoon at Pomona in '63. No one in either of our cl***es that day so we lined up together for our trophy runs. I talked with Bones just before we buckled in, and we gave 'ol John a little surprise at the finish line. We knew the Vette was quicker, running 10.80's against my 11.20's, so Bones shut down just a tick early and we crossed the line together and both tossed the red white and blue laundry in unison. Two candy red cars with matching chutes together must have been a pretty good show. When we pushed back in front of the stands, the crowd was on it's feet clapping like we were Garlits and Prudhome. John had an ear to ear grin. :D

It was restored by Steve Hendriks? The oldtimers on here knew him as juststeve. He p***ed away a 6 years ago and his collection was sold off.

The Maz Vette was sold minus engine to Rodger Newmaster in Minn. He raced it for a while at Minn Dragways near **** Rapids in the early sixties.
