You may find that you like four doors. I did. It's true about the resale though. I plan on keeping this one a while. I like the way it drives. Good luck on yours. Tom
If you disagree that 4 doors are worth less, I would certainly be willing to sell you some rust free cars from KS....I'll buy them here for 4 door prices and sell them to you for 2 door prices, Okay ??? If you disagree that 2 doors generally look better, well, that's a personal view, and everybody is entitled to that. But look at it this way, almost every new (HAMB friendly era) car design started as a two door coupe, the design was compromised after that to make what even the companies thought of as the lesser cars.
1st. rule is dont look at or bye a car at night. Even if you have a big old cop flash light do it in the day.
Yeah I'm planning on keeping mine as long as I can really lol...that's a nice looking ride you got there Tom...
You can keep your fordor cars for tudor prices...okay? Secondly yes it is a personal view, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the bashing gets old...I think yellow cars are ugly and obnoxious...but you don't see me sitting here saying it's not worth a crap because it's ugly and yellow do you? I think it's childish and stupid quiet frankly to bash a car because it has four doors...this isn't 1965...oh it has four doors, it's not cool! Seriously get with the times...
Wow, aren't we touchy....but you just validated everything I said. By the way, I don't care for the yellow myself, but that's how I bought it, it's currently in primer. But...since it was yellow, and you bashed my car, I guess I'll go cry in a corner now... Where, in any of my posts did I bash a four door by the way ??? Where did I say it's not worth a crap ??? Other than to state they they are less desirable by the general public, and therefore less valuable, both true statements.
I think you might be missing the point of this forum. It IS supposed to be 1965 or earlier to be here. "Getting with the times" is for a street rod board.
^^^ No offense beaner but it's stuff like this that pisses me off...but whatever, I told you not to open a can of worms and ya did...done with taking over poor dudes thread...
Wow it's like playing boomerang with a blind dingo lol...right over your head! Get with the times...as in it's 2012 not 1965...
BTW, the post was titled should I buy it....which is an economic decision. I'm not bashing anybody's personal tastes, just giving the OP an economic answer....It costs just as much, if not a little more to fix up a four door as opposed to a two door, and the two door will always be worth more in the end. There are exceptions to this rule, but not very many. I didn't even tell the OP not to buy the car, I did give my opinion that the price was high. If a few of you four door owner's are easily offended by the truth, NOT MY PROBLEM...
The 4 door debate will rage forever. It's important to not get sucked in. One thing though, they can be an inexpensive way to get into old cars. Nothing wrong with that. The bigger issue here is not having a title. That's a deal breaker in my book.
True, but if you overpay for the four door, and then add the cost of parts (generally the most expensive parts, too) and your time and materials....you may have been better off to buy a two door project to begin with.....that's if you want a two door, of course. If you want a four door, just don't overpay....that's all I'm trying to point out.
no title is not a huge deal, you will just need an inspection of the vehicle. Nothing wrong with 4 doors, but it would be a LOT cheaper to buy this car already done, than to restore it. (Just the chrome plating bill alone will break the bank) (I'm in Anaheim too, if you already bought it, I would be happy to come see it)
It is a two door. Remember the Op said two were rusted shut... If it's a driver.. and i could find a coupe body with title that needed a lot.. I would say, YES Buy It!
It's funny how they turn into a shit storm by a few 4 door owners getting their feelings hurt by the truth. Sorry 'bout that.....
If you're happy with the selling price and the seller is happy with your offer, what else to say? IMO, it don't sound too bad for a mid-50s full sized American survivor car.
First off sweetheart, it's going to take you a lot more then that to hurt my feelings, secondly, MY POINT is that I don't get the 4 door "dislike"...my belief is that it's a generational thing...I was born in 1979, not 1939...maybe back in the day if it had 4-doors it wasn't "cool"...a grandpa's car...well I think this day and age things have changed...good cars are hard to find, I don't care if a car as has 2-doors, 4-doors or whatever, as long as it's a bitchin' ride...I find the whole 4-door "hate" to be snobbery at it's finest...but again, that's just my opinion, and I am just as entitled to it as anyone else...so again, don't flatter yourself, this debate will go on forever, however from what I'm seeing from my generation, that shit don't matter...it's the car that counts...because I have seen some ugly ass 2-doors out there and if someone rolled up in a fine ass '50 4-door Mercury the last thing I would do is turn my nose up at it...that's my point...ya dig it?
RiotPirate Damn Girl Pull your panties out your ass crack and get over it .... The OP asked for a opinion AND everyone said their opinion, PERIOD.... No harm No foul..... I love all old cars two and four doors...........
You can't see through your rage one little bit... First... I don't HATE four doors, they're just worth less money. Second... I'm not from 1939 either, I'm only ten years older than you. Third...It's definately a generational thing...other than people who have recently fallen into the old car hobby, and rare exceptions, four doors are not now, nor have they ever been considered prime candidates for hot rods or customs. Fourth...any hack can make an ugly car out of any car. Stating that you have seen an ugly two door doesn't make every four door worth more. Fifth...we agree, good cars are hard to find, however, good two door cars are harder to find, making them more valuable. Sixth....Yes, you are completely entitled to your opinion, I even stated that in my first response to you....We are all entitled to our own opinion, So, why in the hell do you keep attacking mine???? Seventh....Don't call me sweetheart...I get the feeling you don't mean it....plus, my wife wouldn't like it at all.... Eighth...I don't hate you, or your car, or anybody else's car. I don't hate four door cars. I have only stated economic realities about 4 door cars. You seem to be the one with the problem. Ninth...I'm done, if you want to continue, search the 2 vs. 4 door subject here on the HAMB, it'll keep you enraged for hours.
First off, if I was pissed or "enraged" I'd tell you...but it is obvious that some people just can't let sleeping dogs lie, as I said I didn't want to open a can of worms and take over the poor OP's thread but alas, you just keep at it...I have nothing else to say about it...because I honestly don't give a crap...my opinion is my opinion, I love my car and if nobody likes it then fuck 'em and I'm sorry if you or anyone else thinks that me having an opinion is the equivalent of having my "panties" shoved up my ass...whether you like it or not, it's MY opinion, not yours...let it go...have a great day...bless your heart...
Read this, please..and understand who its from http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=742511 I feel this thread will be locked or deleted soon so Im not going to stick around the "Times" here are pre 65
Last time I heard that it came from the driver of a 4 door honda! It's simple economics: cost as much or more to build worth less when your done. If your ok with that go for it. Nobody is "hating" on the 4 doors. Most of our mothers drove them!
