1929 Dodge DA Deluxe coupe, Golf club door and rubble seat coupe,
4 years of work so far, Chopped 3" and Channeled 2 3/4 and frame streched 6",
I was going to put a Chrysler straight eight engine in it, But just bought a nice 331 Chrysler Hemi and Original front fenders.
Lots of new patch panels and welding the roof line chop.
I was going to sell but not now, seam like its going in the right direction.
Suspension and wheels and tires, maybe 6 wheels and tires, anyone see hot rod Coupe with dual spare tires?
What do you think of the direction.

Great looking body, I especially like the golf bag door. But I think having the two spares might throw the car into the restomod category rather than being a hot rod. Nothing wrong with that, if that is what you want, just sayin'.

I like it better in the pictures with it fenderless, but that is just me.

I agree no fenders or at least no sidemounts

Actually no fenders, no running boards, and make a frame with the bottom curving to follow the lower body edge, THAT would be sexy.

Lately I'm feeling fenders and I agree with the getting rid of the spare tire wells. The Hemi is a good move, too. Can you mock up the rears and boards too? I think that'd help.

They are pretty huge fenders, compared to what I'm used to from that era... but I think I'd still go with the. Again, need to see the full mock.

I think it would look great as a fenderless coupe.. Good job so far....

I like the direction you are going with your coupe, and keep the hemi for sure!

Fenders. early 30's cars all have the coolest fenders and everyone wants to take them off.. that's a big classy car... I wouldn't have even chopped it..

  9. Don't cut the fender wells out! The Dodge boys will gladly trade you a set of regular fenders for those.

Contact noboD (Doug) here on the HAMB- he might be able to steer you in the right direction to find a set.

Our friends in New York have one of these dodge's with the fenders and i think it looks cool. You don't see alot of them out there.

I'd keep fenders on the car but try to trade for a set without fender wells. Some restorer will be happy to make that swap. It'll be great with that hemi. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks guy's for the complements and other thoughts,
I am going to take the winter and work on the body. Also I will make some contacts on other 29 dodge owners to see if any one would trade for none welled front fenders before I chop cut and rebuild the ones I have. Also full mock up with fenders and running boards will help the look, I have to make the boards from scratch.
The front spare tire fenders are original look to the car, I have pictures of 29 dodge coupes with dual spare tire fenders. Not to say that a hot rod would have dual spare tires. I was thinking of dual beer coolers!!!!!

That car speaks class with the full fenders. Very nice. There was an awesome Packard at Syracuse this summer that had the spares that matched the rolling stock but had the 350/350 combo. Looked clean and comfy. Yours sound like fun with a hemi. Build it so it pleases your eyes, we don't count.

I will be filling the roof with sheet metal, I will be rolling a 18 ga or 16 ga steel pc for a full weld roof insert. I am lucky to work at a Sheet Metal shop.
I worked on cleaning 58 years of grime and dirt off the Hemi this weekend to get it ready for paint. Pulled the exhaust manifolds off, one with a crack, Looks like headers any way!! So far the engine does not look so bad, just dirty. I think it was road hard and put away wet!!!!
Great Pic of your ride Mark, Keep them coming, I like the cars both ways, with and without fenders. Like walking the fence !!!!!

I do like the mean 60's look that its taking on. Long-low-and chopped.

Here is my 29 dodge DA coupe...I am a little farther along in my project than you guys are but still have a lot of work to go....I am going with the fenders and running boards look....my fenders do not have the spare tire mounts though...I opted for the mopar 340/727 combo instead of the early hemi

So thats what they look like almost done!!!, Great job, I like it, and I should, I have one!!,
Some questions, how much did you chop it?, and what are you running for front and rear suspensions? I like the stance. did you cut the back frame off where the gas tank is?
At least you put a Mopar engine like it should be all MOPAR!!

  22. That is a sweet coupe - the 340 will push that around really nicely. :D

Very good start...I have been building my 28 for 10 years and like you, I went mopar drivetrain with a big block and 727. I have an aluminum headed 426 hemi that I will install once I get the bugs worked out.

2-1/2 inch chop.....no channel...cut back frame off....rolled rear gas tank pan under and bobbed fenders....front suspension is TCI mustang II coil overs with tubular upper and lowers QA-1 ....Unisteer Omni horizon rack....rear is 96 jeep cherokee dana 35 converted to coil overs , rear radius rods, with panhard bar

here is a pick from the back

along with a video of it running

I'm on board with all these opinions. SO many cars with no fenders. I believe they truly add another dimension to the right body. My friend's 32 roadster has fenders and is raked and personally think it looks badass. Plus in Floor-duh, it rains allot and helps keep water away from driver. No sidemounts, more for the "true classics" ie...Packards, Cadillac and even FULL classic Chryslers. What about duals on the trunk???

Hang the sidemounts on there, drop the front to hug the frontal Littles.
Now insert a pair of spares in the sidemounts, and get back and looook.
Note how long and sweeping the profile becomes! (this is a luxury-size Coupe, not a sawed-off Model A)

Just try it, and take some pics. You might want to remember how it 'could have looked'...

I like the long low and chopped look the 29 dodge is going with full fenders.

I have channeled the car about 2 1/2" , and I am going to lower the floor into the large frame the same distance to make more room for the seats.

The catch is by channeling the car I was wondering if the rear fenders will stay in the same location, I cannot move fenders up on the body due to the golf club door which is staying, or will I need to take the channel out of the car??? May be more mockup will tell.
