Zach, glad to see you finally joined the old car club and started posting on the HAMB. Get that thing titled and lets start cruising. I agree, the plymouth needs a shaved front bumper, leave the rear bumper. A couple inches lower and those WIDE whites would be perfect.

I have seen this car and it truly is in excellent shape. I very rarely see a car of this age with no rust. You have an excellent platform to start with.

Spruce up that interior and buff the paint and it is ready to go!

I hope this doesn't mean you arent going to have time to help rewire my 51 now.

    Good for you!
Looks sweet, I'd just put gas in it and maybe fix that seat.
    Have fun!

papasmurf240 - I suppose I could still be persuaded to come help with the shoebox - I still have to decide what I want to do first on mine (not that it really NEEDS much). I'm about ready for cruisin - you better get the doors/fenders back on yours so we can go cruisin haha

LSR-2909 - fixing the front seat is at about the top of the list - after that its hopefully small weekend project here and there so it can stay drive-able.

skirtless33 - wish I knew that before I drove to Ohio haha - oh well, it was an adventure I got to take with my pops... Good luck on your sale, if its near as nice as mine i'm sure it won't last long...

I now know what the unknown switches were for - the aftermarket fog lights. The fog lights and crappy licence bracket were removed last night. I will leave the switches for now - perhaps I can re-purpose them. I took the hubs off b/c I think it looks better w/out. Inside of each cap was some very old looking instruction for changing tire (I think - hard to read).

My pup Kaiser helped me out last night (mainly by licking my face when I was lying down).

Here are some shots of the fog light mounts and the text on the fog light. Anyone know anything about these? They look old, but probably only 20ish years old....???

Work has kept me from doing too much, but I have started cleaning up some parts that were cruddy looking and drew your eye to them with the hood open. Right now focusing on the Radiator, horn mounting plate and hood release plate.

Anyone have good tips on cleaning/refinishing radiator top? Working on these plates makes me realize I need a blast cabinet.

Quick update - found a decent little intake from Mr. Gasket; little eye candy for the engine!

Also got some spider caps - still need to knock off the old hub clips but you get the idea....whaddya think?! I think they look pretty killer....

I also got a chance to stop by Tim Wilkerson's shop in Springfield, IL (Top Fuel Funny Car driver) - holy crap those things are wild. Learned a lot - Tim is a great guy if you ever get a chance to meet him...(that's my uncle in the pic, not Tim)

The instructions in the hub caps should have said that the left side of the car has left hand thread bolts holding the wheel on. There should be a locating pin sticking through a hole in the wheel between lug bolts, do not remove it until you replace the bolts with studs as it is hard to hold the wheel in place while starting the bolts. A little dittie to remember lefty lefty righty righty for the lug bolts, works on MoPars and Studebakers.

James - thanks for the reminder. Last night was first time I had wheels off, and I did read somewhere (thank god) that the drivers side was indeed left hand thread - I'm sure that saved me some time and headache! Even with the stud its still a bit tricky to hold the wheel up there and start a couple bolts, however would be quite hard without the stud....

    +1 for adding studs eventually....

I had the same ideas when I bought my 48 Plymouth coupe. Had intentions of a Poly motor, but the old flathead ran so well I just couldn't bring myself to yank it out. Now I have upgraded to a 57 model 230 and OD but still the flathead.

Carefull of the lil flathead, they can be addicting!
BTW- we have a social group for this- "40 plymouth"...check it out!
I'm in the process of finding interior cloth for my sedan...and finding a 2004r trans...and trying to find someone who punches louvers around these parts....welcome aboard!

Man that edgy head looks sweet, I just can't see dropping that kind of coin on that yet...guess I'll have to settle for "spitfire" on mine.

I hear ya. Yearly Bonus came in and I could either do the interior or purchase the head. I looked at the current interior and thought you know its not all that bad and the decision was made.

  21. A '41 Plymouth coupe is one of my favorite cars and you got a beauty. I want one of those real bad!

Wow, What a great looking Plymouth, definately a great survivor. BTW not sure if you are attemting to break or drill out the
hub cap tabs but those look to be in great shape and would be a shame to
break them, usually they are already busted or rusted off, Just saying.....

Any way great project man!!! Love those styling Mopars

    Good Luck!

I almost broke out the drill to knock out the hub cap tabs but I'm glad I didn't I think I'm going with a different wheel eventually but realized I don't want to ruin the original wheels

    Thanks for the compliments!
