Jimmy Stewart was promoted to Brig. General for making this film.

  2. as a footnote to the B-36, it was originally intended to carry it's own "parasite" fighter planes. They would be stowed in the B-36, launched and recovered in the air! Here's one in the pic!

  3. AND here is the swept wing B-36, the YB-60. Intended to modernize the B-36 design (1945-46), and compete with the B-52. I think one or two were built.

  5. If memory serves (which isn't as often as used to!), one of those little parasites was called a 'Goblin'. Last time we visited the AF museum there was one parked next to or underneath the Peacemaker. The post WWII era were boom years for aircraft technology and design. Some of them were truly great planes.

There are hundreds of threads on the HAMB about Norm Grabowski or at
least mentioning his many contributions to traditional hotrodding and
customs. One of the true giants and pioneers of the hobby/sport, he's
also done more TV and movies than Tommy Ivo, including creating the
original "Kookie Kar" and appearing with Elvis, to name but two exam-
ples. Whether you know him as Normie-Poo, Woo-woo or another nick-
name, please know that this ol' roddin' rooster has passed on after a
brave battle with cancer. THANKS, FlatTopBob, for cueing the HAMB
community in yesterday on this sad news.

On the XC-99, the cargo version of the B-36, we were told when I was at Kelly AFB in Texas for pre-lang training in 1956 that only two had been built. One of them was homebased at Kelly and did daily trips to Fairchaild AFB in Washington. Quite a sight (and sound) when it was going over.

Interesting. Other views of that car seem to indicate that it has two custom, deep-dish wheels that mount two tires each on the back. It did not always run in that configuration, as there are shots of it with a conventional wheel/tire combination.

Not crazy about the wheelwell treatment and the center bar in the grille but otherwise that is hot. I could probably tolerate the wheelwells as long as somebody else cleaned them but that center bar would have to go. The blonde ain't bad either except she'd be about 80 years old now!
