Hey Jay, Again, the Lucas Tri-Bars @ 5.5 dia would tone down the ''Eyes Wide Open" look the 7'' headlamp bulbs are reppin' now............jus' a thought! In lieu of the ''drawer pull'' grille treatment, perhaps some chrome bullits as sold by Mooneyes and others in the 2.5-3'' dia? I'm kinda likin the front end you've fashioned, there, it makes a powerful statement and won't be confuesed with a "restomod'' build. I'd still advise against a loud paint job unless you like waren' oversized shoes, and a big red nose whyle drivin, not that there's anything with that. " Humpty Dumpty was pushed "
what about the headlight bezels out of an early model Corvair?.. I am down with some 55 caddy Dagmars and a line of the large bullets across the grill..See how everyones opinions differ? but the corvair lights would tone it down a bit and the entire bezel could be recessed into the hole you got now.
Been welding up all the trim holes, along with shaving the handles and antenna and got the quarter panel scoops made up,and also found two little rust holes so repaired them as well, the side is now ready for finish body work. Also I guess I never mentioned before but the car belongs to my dad,so it is 1 of many father son projects we have had over the years,I do most of the welding and metal work and he does the finish body work and paint.
I like it so far, I can see what everyone is saying about the size of the headlights in relation to the Gill opening but I think once final bodywork and paint are done the front end will be outstanding. Great job on the metalwork.
It looks decent, but the headlights do seem a little big. It seems a bit out of proportion to me. Good quality work, though. If you could resize the headlights some how and maybe get a different front bumper that car would look amazing.
I'm not one to talk down on all your hard work and effort but there is an easy fix for your headlight situation if you're willing to resize the surrounding sheetmetal. 1961-1963 Thunderbird headlights turned vertically would drastically reduce the size of the quads you're running and you get a cool bezel with them. This pictures shows the housing but once the housing is removed the bucket and bezel are there to work with. Keep up the good work. James
Awesome! One of my best friends Rickie Roaster is building a 53 Lincoln as well and was just talking about thinking of go the dual headlights route...At first i wasnt feeling it but it actually grew on me and i think it looks awesome with the knob grille! Looking forward to see whats next!
I think this looks pretty neat.. Old school customizing of the front end. And, I definitely think the bumper looks right as it is attached, it doesn't need a 'chin'.. Are you gonna make some of those cool polycarbonate covers for the headlights?? Thinking of the old show rods!!
What ever happened to this car? Did it get anymore work done to it? Does anyone know? Would like to have seen something come of it, definatly a cool project. Jim
OK sorry its been awhile since I updated,A few other projects and a divorce came in the way but we are back on it and planning on having it finished by the end of august,I will be posting some pics
This is the start of the rear, extended quarters and a 55 ford front grill,I am doing the sheet metal and fab work while my dad is doing the finish body work on the front and sides
Good looking Kuston. Realy like the direction you Guys are going with the mods. Glad to hear life didn't slow you down to much. Keep on kicken and screaming.
Wow, this is my new favorite car of all time!!! It looks straight out of the little pages. People seem to just chop, bag, and shave kustoms nowaday, but this is actually re-styling it. I love it!!!! My favorite part it the use of the '55 Ford grill in the rear!!! Superb job, can't wait to see it done
Loving it! Mitchelldemoor's statement is right on, this is a real restyling job just like a magazine car would have gotten in the late 50's, and a well done one at that. Looking forward to updates.
