The story I've heard numerous times is that 2 days after it landed at Edwards it had it's wings and tail removed and was on flatbeds headded for the Skunk Works to be reverse ingineered - It fathered quite a few ac systems over the years.

Those, uhh, "pyramids" sure look a lot like tents to me. Especially the one with the chimney.

I've often wondered why GM USA didn't use faired in headlamps like everyone else or did they get sealed beams first

 

I think the GM cars actually stand out as better looking without the built in headlights.
But, like everything, it's a matter of opinion.

 

No '39 cars had sealed beams, they were introduced in 1940.

Ricou Browning might as well have been born in, or under, water like an amphibian, since he's spent so much of his life there! In his own pursuits, Ricou has done as much for underwater and sealife cinematography -- and helping human beings in general to CARE about either -- as did Jacque Cousteau.

And though he got his start in native Florida doing seaquarium spectacles and diving, I don't think he entered any Olympic competitions. That said, he has an esteemed and VERY long resume', indeed! (As a bit of HAMB trivia: For a show stunt, he once drove a Model-T across the bottom of a pool!)

I sure do remember Sea Hunt, one of my favorite shows from the late 50s/early 60s. Here's "Mike Nelson" (Lloyd Bridges) from about 1960:

Here (at least to me!) is a keen treat. How often did you ever
see one of the "mechanical" magazines of the lay press dedicate
a COVER to a Hollywood movie?!? Exactly what Mechanix
Illustrated did for their May 1954 issue. The article, "Science
Creates a Monster," deals with the unique ways special-effects
artists and technicians created the "rubber suits" to turn movie
stunt men green with horror. A big THANKS to NeatO Coolville
of the FlickR community for providing the cover art, PLUS a link
where -- oh, boy! -- you can ready the full, illustrated article, as
the journal carried it over half-a-century ago.


[Incidentally, this same issue carried coverage of the Packard Panther's
blistering of Daytona Beach sand. Not on the link, but it's quite a piece
of high-performance, straight-8 history, if you can borrow a copy someplace!]

Apparently Ricou also had a lot to do with the TV series "Flipper" and other movies:

This from the pic caption: "...Newt Perry hired him to show around Universal executives, then scouting locations for "Creature From the Black Lagoon." They eventually hired Browning to play Creature (Gill Man) for the underwater scenes in all three Creature films. He parlayed that experience into more acting, producing and directing, usually for Ivan Tors Studios. His credits include "Flipper", "Thunderball", "Never Say Never Again", and television's "Sea Hunt."
