Yea man, I saw some guys who drove customs, hot rods, street rods.. (just an old car) or rode a motorcycle to the event and were saying to each other that they were not paying $20 and just hanging on the boardwalk! I kindly said to a few of these people that it takes alot of work to make this happen and that they should support the scene. Every one of those cheapo's I said that to just said, "Yea." and had nothing else to say. I know that you will correct this next time... The way I see it is if you can afford to drive to the event in an old car or on a F'n brand new H-D then you have $20 to support the show. Alot of good shows have dissapeared due to A'holes who dont get it.. It would be cool to have all the people who supported the show this year bring back their wrist bands and charge us $20... all the rest $40!! hahahaha just kidding.. Its about the experience, not the cash but shit aint free! Support the scene!

    Let's see,

I brought my dad and my brother to see the event. We had a great time!

Was it the beautiful day at the beach? Hell yes, I love the shore!
Was it the funny and entertaining announcer? He was damn fuuny!
Was it the bands at the Friday night party and the Saturday race? Great tunes!
Was it the "vintagey" bikes and cars! Oh yes!
Was it the spill and waves! Exciting! (I'm glad he was fine and made that excellent second run)
Was it seeing your friend have a great run down the beach! Nice job Bill!

Mel and the Oilers, thanks for Friday and Saturday, I had a blast!:D:D:D Great job, can't wait for next year!

Amen. I sure wish I would have met up with you because I see we think alike... And I wanted to tell you in person how cool your coupe is!! But yea... $20... come on. For how rad this was I can't believe I ONLY had to give $20!

"Boy I see a lot of cheap skates up there!"

My septuagenarian parents came down from Boston to see the race. (my Father was stationed at Fort Monmouth during the late 50's, so it was doubly nostalgic for him).
They paid the admission fee, wandered among the cars, bikes, tents etc, and then went up on the boardwalk to settle in on a bench with a great view of the event.

So not everyone up there was freeloading....I actually got a couple great overview shots and videos from the boardwalk as well.

Can't say enough Mel, so absolutely incredible, and everything I hoped it would be in terms of vintage feel. A thousand thanks for all your incredible efforts.

My apologies for the absence of my car. Serious car trailer snafu left me hanging friday night without a way to get it there.

My cloth covered speedster sitting dejectedly in the garage Friday night when the trailer rental fell through. (Didn't bother bolting on the zeppelin tail once I knew I couldn't get it down there)

As one of the guys whom Mel asked to kindly get folks on the boardwalk to ante up a measly 20 bucks for the event,I was shocked at how many fnking jerks wouldn't help support this awesome event! It was like I was asking for blood at times..Some even talked some shit to me about not paying..I'm sure next year will be different as a result of those freeloaders and it's really too bad..For a hobby of so-called brotherhood, many should be ashamed of themselves. Some of the guys I spoke to are on THIS forum all the time!!.All I can say to all the people who got away with their 20 bucks,HOW LAME ARE YOU??!!

next year they should block off all 3 streets and only have one entrance so you have to pay or stay out ..i was apart of this race and i paid for a buddy who came out with me, i didnt mind i woulda paid for myself also ..it was well worth the money to run and or watch this event it cost me over 500 dollers for friday and saturday ( gas, tolls and food plus t -shirts and other b.s )coming from the end of long island, it was well worth the money and ill do it all over again next year ..

Mel, please do this again next year! I'd really like to bring a car up there and run it on the beach.

Congrats on pulling off an extaordinary event!

WOW well worth the trip from Chicago!! Thanks to Mel & the Oilers and everyone that brought their cars & bikes out. Pre-party Friday was a sight to see. Saturday, what else can I say that has not been said. It's great to meet so many HAMB'ers and put faces to the names and see the cars you are always following through out this site.

Ed (Hotroded) & Tom, thanks for letting me hang out with you guys and all the laughs!

Out to the garage tomorrow and get to work on the '29 for next year!

History was made for sure. The bar has been raised! The Oilers have the vision and make it happen. Way to keep history alive while writing a new chapter. The wife and I will see you for #2.

To quote the Barenaked Ladies, "it's 3 o'clock in the morning, and I'm hungry, so let's eat."

Finally home after leaving NJ at about 9:30 this morning. So many stories to tell, not the least of which include what happened today, and what we all had to do to get everyone home safe. But I don't have enough perspective on it to tell the story right now.

Mel, thank you. You inspired a lot of folks more than you know. I mean, cars were built specifically for THIS event. Holy smoke, how cool is that?

My car ran me over twice today. That's the kind of day I had. Details later. I'm going to bed. After I eat.

48 hrs later and I'm still feeling the glow.

A crazy good time. At one point I'm standing at the starting line with some guy wielding a video cam, ZZ Top is playing over the PA, we glance at each other, break out in to these huge smiles then just nod our heads and say.. yep.

Who knew that vintage iron could be psychedelic?

I want to do it again. NOW!

  28. Hey All! Boy, I still can't sleep.

I dose in and out of sleep with visions of cars flying down the beach, new and old friends with giant smiles, jumping on my bike and racing off. Our hiliarious friend Nick Foster on the myke(announcer).
I'm sorry though as I don't here those great early ZZ top songs in my head, nor do I here the Troggs, or The Sonics in my dreams, I have the Chip Munks in my head! Eww, e, eww, ahh , ahh, ...bing, bang, wally wally, bing, bang. Life with a rad 2 year old! I love it

I heard a lot of that while keeping modern cars from parking along the Boardwalk with Ryan ("bad cop" me "good cop"). I figured it was keeping out the riff raff.
