    Just a little kibitz..
Looks to me like the whole fender-hood clip needs to come up inches in front, just looking at the relationship of the fenders under the front bumper should be similar to the Black car. That would adjust the droop too.

John, thanks for the comment. The front fenders are right where we want them. if you look at the front view, the hood is wedged down between the fenders, and that accounts for the droop. The reveal that extends from the hood back into the body and quarter was aligned before the hood was sectioned, and when the hood is at its correct height relative to the fenders, the reveal is straight and continuous.

The bumper on Ron's car fits closer to the grille and fenders, and looks flatter. I'm not sure why, since both cars use the shorter Standard (not DeLuxe) brackets. I think after we work out the grille, we may adjust the shape of the bumper.

Comparing the front ends of these two cars is not a good comparison imho because of the amount of differences between the Standard and DeLuxe versions.
To me it looks as though the body line on the hood itself is what is creating more of the drooping illusion on your car. If somehow you can alter the body line to gentely flow into the line on the cowl you should be able to see the hood flow better with the rest of the car.

This pic the line runs through better than the close up that you have shown. Either way I can't wait to se progress this car is a work of art!

  8. This is f-ing incredible!! Anyone who wants to bitch about high end custom cars bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars needs to read this thread and understand the hours of labor, and thought invested!
Many of the changes done are so subtle that they have to be pointed out.
Is that the gas door off my 47 I see?

Yes, you're right. That's exactly what I was talking about in the post directly above yours:
Sure! I think that's the standard fix for a '40 gas filler.

This is a reach, John. If they moved up the front cilp, they'd toss a good portion of the work the section ushered in when viewing from the plan view. Too, if the hood were sectioned much more, I'd take on the '' sat upon '' look  If the fenders were bobbed @ the front to match more of the lines of the black car, the whole front clip would start to look like a dwarf who's feet had been chopped off.

It's startin to look like it's time to pick a colour, and sober up the painter:D

Seems that is pretty common in the profession....

Well, It's easy to make comments from my peanut gallery but I'd rather point out what I see rather than say it later when a $30,000 paint job is on it and pick it apart then.

I see the front fenders at the running board going down hill towards the wheel. It might be camera angle, but I think the fenders are mounted lower at the front relative to the frame and body than they are on an unmodified car. I know from moving the front end of my truck up and down a 1/2" that a small amount can do wonders.
If the remedy for the hood slope is recutting and un-sectioning it some I'd like the see my suggestion at least considered.

The front fenders are not bolted up tight on the car right now. They are drooping a little bit from where they will be when everything is aligned properly.

Not quite yet but soon. We have the grille profile defined with a prototype frame work. With that decided, it became apparent that the hood needed some more surgery which we're working on now.

I just discovered this great thread. What a beautiful car. Can't wait to see it completed.
The concept is similar to My daughters coupe that was hacked in the mid 80s. The coupe roof was removed and 50 Studebaker windshield, windwings, and windows were modified and added.
The doors were sectioned 2 in at the beltline and running boards replaced by formed pieces.
For a top, a wire frame covered with fiberglass was made orginally and later redone in aluminum.
Not to steal this thread but I thought a comparason might be of interest.

Very interesting indeed, thanks. How do the quarter windows operate? Do they articulate somehow, or are they just removed in order to open up the side windows?

it looks great! the new hood line really helps the car. i've always loved the '40 convertibles but hated the tops. i really like the new lines you're coming up with.

  29. Looks great to me and I think it has a European flavor, whatever that is.
    Good job.
