Thanks Todd, I owe you. I wanna put 4 scavenger pipes out back for the real exhaust, I don't like the wheel well dumps although that's where they were on my first El Camino.
Took her outside so you can see the drop better up front, I put the pipes up front to see how they look, I'll try em behind the wheel too. I sprayed the bed with Raptor, good shit! All the trim's on, I had the pieces re-anodized except the hood nostrils which are chromed because they have steel backs which disintegrate from the acid used in anodizing.
Are you going to have Solomon stitch you up a pleated tonneau cover? And/or inside wheel well covers?
Looking at your Elky make me: A. Miss my '60 Elcamino, but at least it went to a good home B. Love my pink '59 Imperial...which won't help me expedite the sale of it
It's looking great Nads. Looks like you're on the home stretch. I'm in for lowering the rear just a little. Just my opinion......Mike
I chopped the rear springs, one coil and flattened down, the seat is in in, brakes are bled and Miles and I went for her first drive in 2 1/2 years.
Looks great, congrats on the first drive. So much of the changes look so natural, it's hard to believe how much actual custom work went into it. Did the chrome cowl vent idea get dumped? That looked really good, too.
Things to do today, fix the two studs I broke when installing the M/T spinners, door panels are done, vacuum line to the transmission modulator and then a good polishing. Yup, it's rewarding, it's been a lot of work, a lot of mistakes too.
For now, it was just too expensive to get it rechromed, and if I hadn't done it it would look terrible all pitted against the brand new chrome on the rest of the car, hopefully I'll find one in good condition to begin with.
I got my door panels back from Solomon, he did a bang up job as usual, but I'm thinking I've got too many damn colors and textures going on. We just went to the grocery store, there's oil leaking out the new oil pan, I gotta check it in the morning, also the tranny's leaking, damn it. The panel's screwed in across the bottom, but I don't wanna do that, I'm thinking heavy duty double sided tape will hold it in place and it'll fit flush with no warps in the panel.
I don't know if it fits your application (thickness), but I used heavy duty Velcro for my door panels. You can buy it at Lowes, etc.
^^^^^^^ Nads, you seem to be looking younger every day! The panels are great, very George Jetson. You can't point at anything on a 59 El Camino and say it's too fussy. Mart.
X2 on the velcro... If you're looking for input on the panel color, I think one option would be to use the black seat insert material behind the arm rest & pearl drum material (from the upper horizontal stainless trim piece down the the pink vinyl hem around the carpet. Would break up some of the pink, and add continuity to the seat... If you're not looking for input, it looks great!
I found a pair of 57-58 Cadillac vent window winders, I need some window winders, much better than the boring Chevy ones
Congrats on getting the car on the road! I like the concept of the door panels, but I think the pink pearl platic clashes with the pink vinyl. I would go to a white pearl plastic or wrap the plastic with the black fabric.
I always forget about this thread till it pops up every now and again. That El Camino looks like it fell out of the '58 Detroit Motorama. Its awesome man.
