Just a shout out to all the right coasters on here to stay safe with Sandy approaching. Batten down the hatches and hold on. Glad we don't have to deal with hurricanes here in the midwest, although the remnants of Katrina rained out our car show here in Illinois. Good luck! Slick Willy
Please guys and gals.Take some GOOD advice and get WELL away from the coast(at least 3 miles).Born and raised in Fl.(1945-1985)saw some NASTY stuff from Mother Nature. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
This is ONE BIG ****ER that's gonna affect approx. 50-60 million or more of us here in the northeast. Stay aware and safe .....
I'm about 60 miles inland but schools and municipal services are all closed except for emergency support personnel. I rolled my other non-HAMB'er out of the garage and covered it to make room for the '32 roadster inside the cozy garage. In spite of the m***ive shutdowns announced, my workplace is not closed so it might be an interesting drive avoiding flooded areas.
Yeah, where I work has closed for at least Monday, but, since I work Security, I have to go in. As an added "bonus", I'm covering the midnight shift for a guy and then have to be in at 1500 for my regular shift. Maybe I'll get four hours of sleep, if I'm lucky. Wife and daughter are at my in-laws, who have a generator.
i'm 150 miles in land and in the hudson valley and the tv weather people act like it's the end of the world comming. all they do is panic people cause a run at the gas stations and super markets.......i often wonder how many people rushing around (for no good reason) get hurt in their efforts to get "stuff"........we should be worried about the millions of people that live on the eastern seaboard..........and be prepared to aide them.
I'm on the Island, south shore close to the ocean beaches and right off The Great South Bay. I did some minor shopping late saturday, no panic in the stores, nobody rushing around, lots of food on the shelves. Sunday, some activity at the gas pumps, Lowes parking lot was full, no sign of a run on the stores. We pretty much take it in out stride being on the coast on an island that puts ME 60 miles out into the Atlantic. The storm will p*** through fast, I feel that people north of us may have it worse. Hurricanes slow dramatically once they reach land then they drop all the water they picked up on the way. Thanks for thinkin' of us, we'll be fine. Bob
Sent the wife and kids to the in-laws (less trees hanging over the house and farther from the coast). Spendin' time with the HAMB until its time to start bailing out the ba*****t and catching the leaks. Everyone else on the east coast stay safe and USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!
You want to hear lack of common sense the HMS Bounty (a copy of the original) is out in the storm with nothing but sails for power. They are taking on water and have called a Mayday into the coast guard. The Coast guard is trying to figure out a way to get out and help them but they said that nothing is going to heppen with it today. Ya got to wonder what they were thinking. I know that they get weather reports just like anyone else. Anyhoo. You all keep safe.
Not one of the best days to have to store the sedan outside, but it's at least got a cover. They've got everything closed down trying to keep folks off the road. Will be worse tonight. RB
Yep according to the news the subways in New York are closed down until after the storm. I guess no one is going to work.
......Just heard that the crew abandoned the sinking ship and most (but not all) have been rescued at this time.
Checking in from CT who is expecting to get the worst of it (wind!). We are as prepared as it's going to get. We've been through this type of rodeo before but the tides are already very high froma full moon and flooding is epected to be quite bad and the winds even worse. We have a stock of fuel, generator hooked up, livestock feed stocked-up, firewood stocked. We're ready to roll. Keep your cell phones charged and make sure the insurance is paid up on everything. Let the fun begin!! Stay safe and be prepared everyone!
......................in a related story Oil Tankers are not allowed to dock. This is causing people to tank up at local stations in fear that oil will never be refined again. Update at the top of the hour. Bob
Well people panic for no good reason. All storms come to an end, the damage is ***esed and the repairs are made. That is what we do. If all souls are safe and accounted for then it is just a matter of cleaning up the mess.
Excellent... I was down by the bay bridges on Sunday, only saw one boat in the water, just east of the Fire Island bridge and it was a SeaTow boat. Nobody sane would take a boat on the outside in that soup. Bob
About 25 miles inland from Long Beach Island NJ here,Everything seems ok so far. Got the camper full of water and propane and got the generator ready. Even found my old hurricane lamps and fueled em up.So we'll see what happens.
Hey I got the news on and I just saw waddyacare floating by on an old beat up couch. Just wanted to get this back out there incase someone is iin trouble and one of you other fellas is close enough to get in trouble with 'em.
pretty windy here near hartford ct i did pick most loose stuff up in yard and boarded garage windows up (never had to do that before) they saying we are going to be hit with worst storm since 1938 to hit this area trees bending a lot now lots of rain hoping stuff dont uproot Russ
Since I now have a sufficiant generator and have made the hook up there is a chance that it won't be needed...
