    Springs have arrived great looking vintage springs with tapered leaves with radiused ends

    Just have to drill them , before chopping them in half to make four quarter eliptics from two half eliptic springs ,

    More of the Baby Vanderbilt cars.Which,by the way,actually had Harley engines in them.

    Here you go Stevie... The C-6 Amilcar uses quarter eliptical springs.You can see the pivot connecting the spring eye to the differential.I'm sure the torque tube is the other connecting link.

    Why do those Baby vanderbuilt cars run two chains to the rear wheels ,

    Two speed drive?

    I think they the power runs through the Harley transmission to a jack shaft.Then goes from there to the 2 chains.Like you're thinking ,one is probably enough.Kinda like on Formula 500 cars.My thought is that the 2 chains keep even load on the shaft.

    Harley had a 2 wheel arrangement for their 3 wheeled Servicars thqat would have worked great here.Then the center of gravity would be a bit higher.

    Howdy folks. I recently got the bug to build a cyclecar (hopefully in a few years) and while doing some research I came across this website and awesome thread. While I do like the look of the three wheelers (2f 1r) I really would rather have 4 wheels. My idea of what I want to build is something similar to what has been posted by sancta rosa (post #2635) as well as that posted by bubbfab (2623) on page 132 of this thread. I do have two old kawasaki 305's out in the yard and what I'm thinking is fabbing up a passenger compartment with a frame and structure to attatch aluminum body panels to, while making mounts just rear of the seats to mount the motors (one on each side), and custom short swingarms that would mount up under teh motors, bringing the wheels right up against the motors. I love the looks of the morgan's as well as the old boattail roadsters, so I'm envisioning something that might be a combination of both. Of coarse, on the other hand, I love the look of the old '27 Ford roadsters (the most beautiful of all of the old Ford roadsters IMHO) so maybe I'll have to build a scaled down version of one of those with an old farm tractor engine. I found a farmall cub power unit on craigslist for $500, so maybe something like that would be a great start. I'll figure it out as I get started.

    Yeah, tell me about it, the plate of fries they give you out there is a meal of its own. Yeah, Elvis is still around. I live about two miles from the hotel, so I'm not really "in" carsonville, but it's about the closest thing to me.

    Thanks Chuxx. I've had the wheels turning nonstop since I started checking out this thread. One thing that I am pretty well decided on is having twin 305cc motors (since I happen to have a pair sitting on my workbench under about 1/2" of saw/sanding dust) and mounted out back. The problem is they're air cooled so I'd need some air ducting, shrouding and probably some sort of cooling fans to force air into them. I've pretty much decided that I'm just going to use the motors and not the rest of the bike frames. This gives me the option of either going with A) a swingarm (one per motor) mounted up under the motors to keep everything shortened up a bit, or B) mounting the motors on the swingarms themselves, kinda like the fun karts that tractor supply sells. I'm thinking that option A is going to be easier on account of it already needing to have some complexity for the throttle, clutch, and shifter controls. I do like the idea of having twin swingarms to go along with the twin motors. Advantages that I could see would be true posi rear, independant rear suspension, as well as having four wheels, instead of three. The swingarms would be designed similar to a tubular a-arm on an ifs car, only on a larger scale and turned 90*. I've been going over some ifs ideas in my head pretty much all day as well. One thought was to make a scaled down tubular version of of the old Ford twin I beam ifs found on the '70's trucks. The other idea that I had was to have a straight axle that would be cut in the middle to pivot giving me an ifs. Then there's the dilema of how to spring the front and rear. Coil over shocks would be the easiest, but I really like the idea of using a torsion bar set up like a sprint car or midget race car a whole lot better. That shouldn't really be all that hard to do or to get the parts for either as a friend owns a local dirt track supply buiseness, so I could always stop in at his store to check out the frames and eventually do some shopping. Nontheless, this build is going to be a long ways off according to finances. Hopefully a year from now I can start on it, but that may be dreaming as well.

    They all look to have the exact same chassis.

    Aviator Art Smith and the San Francisco Harley Dealer.You're right about the identical chassis.The idea was to mimic the BIG Vandebilt cars in looks only and put on a show!

    When I was a kid the toymaker IDEAL built a slotcar type affair called Motoriffic.There was one chassis and several dofferent interchangeable bodies.Same idea.

    Guys, Ive tried doing a google search on this and couldn't find anything. Maybe I'm just not patient enough, maybe not. Where could I come across any information on any reproduction, NOS, or even used vintage mechanical dampers like I see on so many of the vintage rides in this thread. I'd love to put some of them on mine when I get to building it, but can't seem to find any info on them. Thanks in advance.
