Tank in trunk! I always thought those rear tanks on 32-up looked like a hemmorhoid... dangerous, too, in a rear crash.
i like the tank where henry intended it, if the car is staying on top of the frame. and, no tank cover! who's car is the black one? that's getting me jazzed to start on mine again...
I'd rather slit my own throat, stab myself in the eyes with sharp sticks and be whipped by live rattle snakes than run the tank in the back! But that's just me. My 34 coupe has the tank in the area between the trunk and seat. I scarfed it from a buddy who fab'd it up from stainless and hated it when it warped a teeny bit at the baffles. The idea of running a gas tank at the back of my car is like strappping a bomb between the rear frame rails and daring some 17 year old texter in mom's Toyota to plow into it....scary! Besides, I want to show off the quick change!
If the tank stays in the rear there will be no tank cover. I hear you guys on the tank in the rear that is why the indecision. I got the pic of that black primered 3 window here on the HAMB. I would love to see more of that car.
Tank in original spot. If that bomb's going to go off, I wouldn't want behind my neck. The cut off frame rails is a personal hate.
Anybody have any suggestions on a good chassis guy? I am thinking on having someone box the rails front and back and put in an A rear crossmember and make sure everything is all square.
Nice score Josh! Drop that tank like a hot potato! It looks like a full diaper! I narrowed an F1 pickup tank and mounted it behind the seat to the quarter support uprights. It holds 19 gallons and I lost zero trunk space.
good for you , i'm getting ready to start some work on the old hot rod 33 5 wdw i just picked up a couple months back , sounds like we may end up with very similar builds , im doing fenderless , full hood , no chop , i already made masonite door panels for mine too!!! ha ha lol i'm running a flatty and leaving the tank and modifying the spreader . no channel a set of 16" bent spoke kelseys and 6.00 and 7.50 16 stones and as many original ford parts as i can save . i did score a 59A flatty hopped up with some speed parts or i would have done a HEMI !!! good luck with the build i will definitely be watching . and here is a pic of mine !!!
Update ! It is finally back up on wheels. Not alot has happened to the car other than removing the filled roof, blasting and priming the frame and mocking up the suspension. I had to push it ouside for a photo shoot and to give me something to look at while I do yard work.
I put a Tanks gas tank behind the seat. It is their universal style tank which is tall and not very deep. My car is channeled so I shortened the rails and removed the gas tank cover flange. Running 41-48 Chev tail lights.
I like what you are doing with this coupe. Nice build project! And my vote is leave the roof stock height.

The masonite door panels should go, masonite pegboard is lighter and will give a bit of a race car look to the interior. Bob

When I was 30 lbs lighter had brown hair . I put a hemi in my 3 window. It was full fender with no side panels on hood. It was a bitch to do but well worth it when done. I vote Hemi. maybe a 241 dodge. Great looking project. Good luck
I'm voting for Olds 303 hooked to a '39 box and banjo. Six twos and a pair of Hildebrand valve covers. What could outdo that? Oh..... Gotta have the Belond style headers to be absolutely perfect! (Of course, I'm a little biased.)
