hello, I recently picked up a 32 ford frame for my project. the frame is stamped *B51****2* wanted to know if that sounds right and this is a 4cyl frame thanks, also are the front crossmembers the same v8 or 4cyl thanks
Sounds like a 4cyl car, v8 would start with 18-****** wrather than B-****** . I believe the front crossmembers are the same, motor mounts different. Actually, the "B" means bogus, so just sell it to me.... for a discount for being bogus.
The B numbers started at 5 million. Your number is correct mid June 1932 and after. The V8 and 4 cylinder front crossmembers were the same. Charlie Stephens
Hey littlebrownjug I have just bought a 33 Phaeton... Right hand drive, 4 cylinder and have been scratching the left frame rail from radiator to firewall looking for the serial number but have not found it.... where was your stamped ? ... I know there are 2 more locations on the frame with the number stamped but only the front one can be seen with the body still on the frame. Was your front frame number visible and present ?
I have an 18- number BARELY visible on my frame. anyone know when they started?? seems I have a very short number??
There is a very famous picture of Henry Ford stamping the first one. The first number was *18-1*. I ***ume yours isn't shorter than that. Charlie Stephens
"18-" or "18-0" actually its really hard to tell whats what on my frame. I think there are 3 digits after the dash but they are about 1" apart and very faint. the stamping must have been done by the limpest wristed guy they had there on friday at 4:59 because I can see where the punch wasnt square and barely on the rail...
Check the area under the door sill, and the rear end kick up. There should be 3 areas on the drivers side rail. The firewall location only, will have the 18- or B prefix. The other two will have just the vin #.
I have never seen the numbers that far apart but anything can happen. Also note that there should be a star at each end of the number. Charlie Stephens
The frame I purchased last month, instead of a star it has a short arrow pointing up and down(vertical) on each end where a star would be.
