Hey here something I copied of the net, Of the three Chevys in Two-Lane, one was used as a camera car for interior shots, of which there are many. The second and third ’55 Chevys were utilized for racing, street, and highway scenes. The main Two-Lane Blacktop Chevy featured a 454 engine with aluminum heads, tunnel ram intake and dual Holley carburetors. The transmission was a Rockcrusher Muncie M-22 hooked to 4.88 gears. A straight axle and four-wheel disc brakes were also employed. Lots of fibergl*** was used, and sliding Plexiglas was used for windows. One car was built for a rollover scene that never made the final movie cut.
The American graffiti 55 chevy had a 454 in the 1962 setting? I know the two-lane blacktop 55 chevy had a 454 in that 1970 setting. Which car are you looking to clone?
Google it, get ALL the info... The Two Lane car AND the Graffiti 55 are THE SAME... Two Lane was filmed first, BUT the 55 was re-used in American Graffiti with NO mention or look under it's one piece gl*** nose...
Hey 32 Graffitti, Here is a great ol' quarter mile warrior...'55 Chevy that I came across while lookin' at another car to purchase! The '55 was complete with fenderwell headers, well built 468CI. BBC, M-22 trans. and a 488 rear gear! Car had all lexan windows, 'gl*** tilt front nose, doors, deck lid and rear bumper, roll bar, ladder bars, safety loops, blow proof bell, line loc etc....love them ol' '55 cheap model sedans! Good luck with your '55 build!
in the movie, American Graffiti, the 55 is suppose to have some kind of new mystery engine and the best choice would be a new hipo 409 even though the car actually had a rat motor. And the 2 lane black top 55 Chevy is the same car used in A.G. By the way, this stuff is really old news.
it is amazing and cool that even this old hashed out info on the 55 chevy is still brand new to some people - means the hobby is still growing and has some life left in it wicked john, man that 55 is almost spot on the graffitti car except for the cross flag emblems and the door gl*** set up , very cool
Wasn't there a mystery motor that they put in a few aluminum front end 63 SS Impala's??? maybe the 396 or 427? I seem to remember one running around here in 1970
What part of the movie American Graffiti did it say that the 55 had a mystery motor in it ? I don't recall that ever being mentioned.
