Cool pic. Look at the focus on the drivers face. All that commotion around him and he is focused straight ahead, ready to go. I can almost feel the adrenaline pumping...

" Like with Gary Read some day we need to do lunch and tell stories. PM me if you so desire....Mark[/QUOTE]"

Are you referring to the same Gary Read who drove the Groundshaker JR AA/FA and Nutcracker AA/FC Javelin? If so, you gotta get him to post pics and commentary. That Javelin was the loudest flopper ever: Well tied with maybe The King Camaro of Dean LaPorte. As for Ed Weddle, that guy was a real talented chap. His J & J Muffler Service constructed quite a few competitive altereds and competition dragsters. They even offered their own fire suits among other things.

Rose Headers were used on a lot of cool sportman cars, read gassers and modified production class cars. I hope that some of those old cars are still adorning the walls of the shop.

  11. Thats a unique photo of Ivos Fueler & the Top Gas car of Jim Minnick.
Jims car has a very early 426 Hemi vs. Ivos 392.

They both have M/T rocker covers,& Jims were prob one of the first sets M/T made for the 426.
You can tell the difference in tire sizes as well, with the T/G cars tires being smaller.

And,,even though Jim ran a Top GAS car,he was from NITRO West Virginia!

Good obs Mr. Gagle. And Minnick (no relation to the Minnick of Chi-Town Hustler fame, but ironic nonetheless) sort of drifted away as quickly as he surfaced, despite winning a few major NHRA events. I dont recall any other 426 rail doing as well so early after the 426'a release. Even Garlits floundered for a season before learning all of its idiosyncrities.

  13. I'm guessing that's a Tony Nancy interior in Ivo's digger?

  14. You would be correct. Tom and Tony were good friends.

When I asked Gary for his e-mail to send him the picture I took you should have seen the look on his face. A great big WHAT. But me being me I will ask more questions. Like I said I was a kid back then and Mikio says it was his dad that drove the Stone T. So it might take a while to get the truth or something close to it:D

You would think whoever has these cars would get some low cost jack stands to put them up on.

There were things available in the Quarter Master catalog alright, and some of us cheap skates even welded the spiders all together experimenting with locked differentials. But on the surfaces we raced on, there was never a driver alive who could hold a light narrow car with nitro or a blower in a 10 acre field without an open differential. Championship cars on real sanctioned racing tracks were not an exception either.

Falcon; Your mission in life has just been re-assigned to find those old Ga. run whatcha brung photo's. Plenty of nostalgic championship nat'l event coverage and Nascar history, but this world out here has gotta see real drag racing! Tom S. in Tn.

    Cool...

I was wondering if this was the real thing or a clone.

And I'm wondering if Tarbabe owns the real Tarbabe? Both the Little Giant Killer AND Tarbabe were real 1/4 mile terrors.

Giant Killer was an Irwindale regular. I liked the car, but I was always a fan Abarths anyway
