No pinstriping on this one, please. Great that you got the worst rot under control. Looking forward to the rest!
If I say "that's not un-typical" - does it help? Good thing is, I know you can deal with it properly! -Dave
Youv'e heard the term "best of both worlds". Here we have the "unholy trinity", bondo on top of lead, on top of rust.
Well aint this just fine. Not as quite as bad as Snooky's but, this is supposed to be after the "fix".
That's a fair amount of lead there. Guess they couldn't, or didn't want to, pull it out. Ill take that lead off your hands if you don't want it.
I've welded up all the holes. I didn't want to completely remove the inner lid support. I did some more pushing and shoving. I've put more bondo on it than I'm comfortable with. I'm going to keep my eye's peeled for a better lid. I've got some cheap rattle can primer on it for the time being.
Hey Jerry, making steady progress I see...i was checking out a old barris custom book, noticed a pic where Sam and George have the top cut off of the Jesse Lopez car,it was cut across the middle, right through the rear window, ala model A ,as you said to me in our last conversation...looking forward to see the actual chop on yours...
Im going to try and combine old school with new. For the sake of tradition. I asked Jesse how much brass was used on his car, he said lots, we liked how it flowed. Ive brazed my share of ¼s on back in the day. So well see how this gos.
Hey, Fourty years ago plus, before the days of ''squirtgun'' welders we brazed just 'bout everything. It was faster than a full gas weld, and usually required less heat- the down side was the flux Be sure you remove all of the flux and fire scale from all of your brazed areas before you go with your epoxy undercoat. Whata great project " A government by the people, for the people " My ass!
Yeah that flux can be a headache. I've had to fix some real nightmares having to do with brass over the years.
For decades it was what you did to weld things together. The auto body industry used it and thrived. Simple discipline, keep things clean. No failures, no hassles.
Exactly. That's the only way to be sure you won't have any problems. BUT... it always scares me when my paint rep tells me that they can't and won't warranty any of their products over brass.
