amazing!!! I thought this car was a lost cause. But I'm glad i've been proven wrong. I can't wait to see the end results. You've got more patience than I.
Glad to see you are still plugging away! The car is looking great, go back to the first page of this thread if you need to be reminded of how far you have come! Did you ever get the title issue sorted out ??
As far as paperwork goes, didn't the guys son who owned the car when it burnt post in this thread? Couldn't the dad sell you the car or help you with paperwork?
I didn't like the way the filler panels between the trunk and fender looked so I decided to replace them. Got started on it tonight. 2 down, 2 to go. Then start the other side.
Filler panels are done I decided I want to replace the drip rails. I know Gene's sells them, but $250 is a bit steep for this bucket. So I started thinking about how I could make them without a shrinker/stretcher set up. I decided to try making a hammer form. Here's what I came up with. The rail just out of the form A little tweaking and adjusting later No, I didn't hem the edge but I think it'll do for what it's going on. It still needs some adjusting but I'm encouraged enough to make a form for the front half. I still need to figure out a way to put a slight curve in the face of the rail.
I did a little more tweaking, cut it down a little. I think it looks ok. I know I like it better than no drip rails so it's probably the route I'm going to go.
Subscribed, just read the complete thread , now I'm tired and going to bed. Nice job looks good, do what you want to do with it. Most people would have let it sit And rot. Can't wait to see what it will look like. Nice work
Ok, here we go. I got a wild hair and decided to go with my original plan to chop the top. I liked the proportions on the 40 Baron chopped and since he posted the measurements that's the route I went. SCTA and ECTA allow for a 3" "beauty chop" on cars running a vintage engine. This is 2.5" at the B pillar so it's still legal if I run a flathead. All the cuts marked. Once I started cutting there was no turning back. Top sitting in place with double D shaft locator pins in the a pillars. I hope to get everything fit and welded this week and modify the drip rail form to fit the new roofline. I know some aren't going to like it, all hate mail goes to Zibo. It's all his fault. Yeah the pics suck, I'm still using a shitty Blackberry at the moment.
Get that back pannel right a you are a king. If not, well lets not go there but judgeing by the turn around on the rest of the body I dont think we'll have to go there.
A little more progress I was going to scrub the rust on the inside of the roof before I welded it back on but it was pretty flimsy so I opted not to. I was pleased with the way it held it's shape when I cut it, all the stress it was under I was a little worried it would wad itself up.
I got the roof fit and partially welded and clamped the rear window panel in place. I think it looks pretty good but I want to roll it outside tomorrow and get a better look at it. The other option would be to shorten it up and lean it at the stock angle which would lengthen the window to trunk panel.
That really looks nice! Take lotsa pics of it outside for us! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
wow! everything im working on looks like childs play compared to what you're doing. Nice work very inspiring
Absolutely astounding work! The metal finishing you've done is unbelievable. I didn't read completely through the 21 pages, but wondering if you have a link or contact info for the shrinking disc?... Maybe a how to guide as well?
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Here's a link to the disc I have http://stores.ebay.com/Pro-Shaper-Tools-and-Videos I've had real good luck with mine.
