Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Nov 11, 2012.

  1. Needs some inspiration and ideas.
Have plenty of room, could probably shove 3 of them in there.
Looking for some pics of custom or OEM types.
    Thanks !

Heres the one I made for my T roadster, its bolted to the frame and i can get access to it from a hole in the floor under the seat or from underneath.

  3. If you don't already have a Battery you must use check into a Odyssey Battery. They are Gl*** Matt, about 1/3rd the size of any brand Wet battery the same Rate and can be mounted in any position. They are about the same price as Wet batterys and way better than any Optima you can get. I'm using a PC-925 in my F-100. It measures 6.5" x 7" and 5" tall.

  4. Cool thanks!
    Nice job.

  5. I know Odyssey batteries well.
    My sister works for enersys.

  6. Here is the one in my Truck. I have such faith in them I mounted it where I actually have no access to it without having it on a Hoist. I suppose you have an inside connection. What are your feelings about these Batt. ?

  7. Flat out awesome if you need a AGM..
More amps per area of battery
Engineering dept was great to talk to and gave me lots of info.
Perfect for any custom application where size is a factor.

I made a swing down battery frame in the p***enger-side fender well on my 40 Ford tudor, it latched with a spring loaded pull handle. Worked well and was out of the way. The trouble with putting a battery in the trunk is the cables are to long causing a large draw on current. IMHO.

  10. Size does matter. Notice it fits inside the Frame Rails of my truck. And it cranks my Hemi like theres no tomorrow. It's the 3rd one I've used. It blows me away how long my Tractor can sit and still crank right up.

i've used agm batteries on a couple of bike builds and i can tell you they do not like a lot of vibration. i could'nt solidly mount them they needed some type of cushion, but a car will probably vibrate less than a rigid panhead :)

  12. Swing down style would probably work best.

My Brother-in-law is a real gyro gear loose. He's always coming up with one gadget or another. He came up with a cable operated swing down battery box. He used a motor from an old 12V cordless drill to power it up and down. Slicker than goose poop!

I really like the 49-51 Ford shoe box because it could easily be used by an old hotrodder before we could buy everything from a catalog. Besides there is nothing like having a battery box with louvers.:D Easy to mount too.

  17. I'd like to see a pic of that one !!!

    Thanks Tommy !

  18. Pretty slick turbo,
I won't have thru floor access, but I will have more than enough underbody access and room to slip in and out.

    interesting,
I want to mount one under the front fender on the ford.
    Lots of room under there.
I need to get it out of the trunk.

This was nothing fancy, and it's not even done (clearly), but here's mine:

I put them under the p*** fender on 40 fords--then modify the stock inner splash guard to fit/protect battery---a little tough to change but not that hard--works well-done 8 or 9 this way and battery is close to starter/load. requires a shorter battery than normal to fit in tight and close--have the number somewhere--I think it's for 65 Mustang.

I don't want another one in the stock location under the front floorboard on the 48 but as i am stretching the cab i'm thinking about building a box for one behind the p***enger side seat and using a Mercedes/Audi style battery made to be put under the rear seat. Low profile and it has a tube that vents through the floor.
i've also thought about building a tool box looking box out of wood that matches the bed floor and having it at the front of the bed with battery in one side and tools and car supplies in the other. To people who look in the bed it will just be a nice wooden tool box with nice hardware on it.
