Wow, what a trove of significant archival pictures and info at following links: linkshttp://carofthecentury.com/world's_first_concept_car.htm: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Harley-Earl-I-Love-Automobiles/210134269031472?ref=hl
For years the styling studios and engineering departments had been using "X this" and "X that" for "Xperimental". The designers of the Y Job were so sick of it, they decided the next step after "X" should be "Y". This gives the lie to the idea that the Y Job was the first experimental car, the first show car, the first concept car or the first anything. That's all GM ********.
When the following do***ent, link below, chronicling the history of the "concept car" was written, the two largest companies in the world (GM & Ford) both had headquarters in Detroit (GM by the way was twice as large as Ford at the time). During which, the auto industry was the biggest cash-cow in the American business world. The only GM bs came afterward in all the decades following the fifties when the company, and America's auto capital fell from grace, etc... http://carofthecentury.com/harley_earl_led_the_way_in_detroit_styling_&_engineering.htm
