I have the original trunk props on my 40 chevy they don't hold the trunk up. It does go down real slow but does not stay up. Any sugestions on how I can fix them. I'm having trouble keeping it up.OK let me have it

Post what you need in your thread title. "Help" is a bit vague.

  3. I thought that the trunk supports on a 40 Chevy were mechanical not gas filled as you seem to describe. Some companies offer replacement supports that are gas filled .Are you sure yours are stock?

  4. Sal, these new or rebuilt or just the old ones painted? They are suppose to click and lock in the up position. Perhaps they are dirty and the locks aren't working. Put one end in the vise and see if you can get them to work off the car.

I'm 69 years old and I too have trouble keeping it up but my '40 Chevy has a mechanical lock that clicks in place to hold up the trunk. Take your trunk support off and dissasemble it. Clean out the years of dirt and put a little light grease on the slides. There is a small spring that snaps the locking tab in place when it lines up with the slot in the end of its travel.

  9. You could always use a broom handle. If you dont wanna go that way i would take the hinges apart and clean them up.
