Great story Sheldon, I wish that you and Jake and other ET members would have taken some pix, It would have been great to some of those rods at places like Tiny Naylor's and such.
____________________________________________________ You won't have to worry about it. No way this car will sell for $600,000 or $700,000. These guys are investors--- they're not stupid. " Real hot rods don't have fenders "
It only takes two rich guys at an auction to drive prices into the stratosphere. I'm betting that it will SELL for $850K+
Given the car has world wide recognition, and a lot of heavy hitters want it. It wouldn't surprise me to see it bring over a million easily.

There were 3 McMullen 32 roadsters the first 2 were steel and the third one was a copy of the first one with the straight axel and moon tank. That first steel one is the one that is going up for auction at Meecum. The second one(steel) has the Digital dash with credit card ignition switch and the Moser 4cam-4valve chevy V8. I know all this because I talked to Tom McMullen before my customer bought the car from one of last owners and it is in storage in a barn here.
also ..i believe the third 32(fiberglass copy) was given to the guy who painted Toms cars as ordered from Toms will after his death.
Maybe someone can help me, I am building a 32 with a 427 FE and a C6 and I have been looking for pictures of the car with the FE/C6 in it so I could see how it was built but I have yet to find a pic showing the FE engine within the frame rails. Could anyone please help me with some pictures as I'm getting ready to begin my engine and trans set up process. Thanks
IIRC it was written up in Popular Hot Rodding, and one of the Petersen Annual publications. I wouldn't spend a lot of energy looking for the articles, it used an electric pump from an airplane for a water pump because of clearance issues, you could do a lot better with modern ideas. I don't think it saw a lot of street use with the 427.
ha! if mecum does the 8% buyers premium and taxes like cruze does (or did, i should say) your looking well over 3/4's of a million dollars. thats a lot of dollars for a "clown car"
If you ship the vehicle out of state on an ICC carrier, no tax is due. Most guys throwing this kind of dough around register them in MT. anyway. If I owned the Spencer car, I wouldn't let go either.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/4618234427.html Looks kinda shady with only 2 somewhat crappy pictures of it... If there is even a car to be sold, could be a Prince in Uganda.
