I am looking at an ebay 51 Ford Heater - The listing states 48,49,50, 51 and 52 F1 heater. Then in description he states "Took this out of 52, may fit 53,54,55 or 56. My heater is in shambles and interested in bidding but concerned about description. If any of you have photos or know if this works for a 1951 F-1, please let me know!

    Thanks!

Attempted, but the ask seller function not working correctly or too close to sale time. Photos of someones heater in a 51 would help. About 6 hours left in sale.

I do not see the seller requirement regarding approval to bid. I thought all ebay members could bid on merchandise.

The 48-52 cab is basically the same....53 up is different. Thats why he says "may fit" 53 etc...hes not sure

I put a GM heater in my 51....just had to drill a couple of holes....They arent rocket science.....You must remember though that they are 6 volt, not 12....I just run mine on low speed.

So I have a 12 volt system. Any special requirements? Also, Stroker I read it the same way but maybe could have been worded better. I was thinking actual photos from a 48 to 52 heater would verify before I bid.

I had Arvin heater in a factory GM car so I don't think this is a Ford factory heater. It sure looks like it will work for heat and defrost if that is all you want. It might take some engineering from you because there probably is no manual for a "correct" installation or source for factory replacement parts. I can't see any lever or cable connection for the defrost so that may require some thought and engineering. All is very simple when you get into it but I don't think this is a bolt in Ford P/U heater and will require some effort to make it work.

Tommy, I questioned heater appearance also. But he says he removed from a 52 F1????? That is why I am seeking the knowledge on this board. I have a suggestion - All of y'all within a couple hundred miles come over to Sunny but Chilly South Carolina and we can spend a week putting parts is parts on my truck and I will buy the beer. Sounds like a deal to me! Really I have to ask questions but I am learning and it is in large part due to this group.

I agree...if that was a Ford heater, it would likely say so on it......I installed a resister unit in mine, you know like on more modern heaters, so it would have multiple speeds. Problem is, on high it really screams being a 6 volt motor....so I just run it on low and it runs at high speed for 6 volts, I guess....Mine has a little flapper right on the unit to switch from heat to defrost.....Its pretty basic.....lol

  13. Arvin is an after-market company, and also supplied parts to Ford. They've been around since the '20s.

It may have been a dealer installed heater. It also may have been a replacement sometime in the trucks life.

Here is a diagram of the Magic-Aire heater which I believe was standard (factory installed) in '51 and '52.

That does not mean it came from the factory with it. I'm not saying that it won't work... just that it was a custom installation by a cold hotrodder or a cold farmer many years ago. As long as you understand that you will be fine.

Just went out and looked, and this is the Ford heater in my '52 Five Star Extra. I have a NIB aftermarket "universal" heater that I picked up at a swapmeet, I remember installing a few of those in my gramps' old coal delivery and milk route trucks when I was a kid in NY. Kits came with the switch and even the hoses to hook it up

Well I was outbid at end with an automatic bidder thing. I guess I need to go to a swap meet or something. I really need the heater core. I am going to begin an assembly of parts that came with truck but was told it only needed the core. Thanks for advice.

Then you need to be certain that the core you buy will fit the heater you are trying to fix. I'd bet real money that an Arvin core will not fit a Ford heater without alterations. You probably saved some wasted money.

Maybe your core can be repaired at a rad shop, if you have one
