I think that's "Arado 196 brings an English submarine up."

Sorry, didn't know somebody else had already answered. I didn't check Wikipedia, but it looks like I had it close.

Hey, this is pretty cool. A '50s Renault concept. Looks like a cross between a Stout Scarab
and a DivCo! :D Posted on FlickR by member Jawaha. Anybody know background on this van?

Yes, I guess you could call it a 301, but Chevy called it a 302. But what's a cubic inch among friends?:D

Yeah, that's Cos. He looks different with the moustache and the s**t eating grin. He once hired me to play the theme song for some TV game show that he was putting on, a remake of Groucho's "You Bet Your Life" or something.

In the studio, he kept making me do take after take after take of the damn thing. Finally I got pissed and decided to play the worse piece of s**t ever heard, get fired, and take my $$$$ and split the studio. Well, I played the worse thing I could think of, Cos came running out of the booth all happy and said, "why didn't you play like that from the beginning? That's a take!"

Thay actually took it and used it on the show! Needless to say, I only watched the show once, never told anyone that was me playing.

Hot rodders were building "301's" long before Chevy made it a production engine but Chevy called the production version a 302 because they didn't want to be at a cubic inch "disadvantage" to Ford's 302 on the spec sheet. One cube may not be much between friends but it's huge between rivals. ;)

  16. We'll have to put that question to everyone, as I'm not sure myself.

1884 De Dion Bouton Et Trepardoux Dos-A-Dos Steam Runabout

It is the oldest running original automobile in the world (supposedly). It sold last year at the RM Hershey auction for 4.6 million. I was there and this is a picture of it being hammered sold....has been removed since it didn't fit the thread...

The last two posts are not vintage photographs. MetalShapes just warned all posters to get back to the theme.

Eddie Cochran had a role (and song) in this kooky
teensploitation flick of the later '50s. His untimely
death, in England in '60, should not have happened!

  27. Here's a shot of a Chrysler A-57 30 cylinder tank motor being installed in a Sherman!
What ingenuity! Five L head Chrysler motors sharing a common crank! You'll never see this kind of thing again!

  28. Bullocks Dept store. Pasadena in the 40's. Not really art deco, but imaginative futuristic style. Beats Target huh?
