1964 - Pontiac Bonneville Station Wagon apparently located on a beach in California.
A look at what it may have looked like before:

You shouldn't have posted those photos. Now the HAMB will be inundated with dipshits wanting to know where they can buy that super cool beach patina look. And would it be traditional to paint dry lakes race numbers (suitably distressed) on the side.

Wait, how did that 3rd row seat survive?

And don't forget the straight axle for the pretendagassa look, and of course a belly-button engine

  6. It's wierd some of the interior is intact with the rest of it so destroyed by the salt water. Be interesting to know what the story is, how it could have been left to sit so long on the beach. Looks like the motor is even in it.

You're right rusty - I was amazed at how the third row seat looks fair, while all around has pretty much gone. Must be some good old carcenogenic vinyls from back in '64 protecting it from any sea-life or forms of salt.

I wonder how any council/municipality would leave it sitting in the middle of the beach long enough to reduce to such a pile - especially given the propensity of some people to sue if they tripped over it, or stubbed a toe on it....................... I wonder if it may have recently washed up in a storm or something after resting for years beneath the waves - in an octopusses garden, in the shade...........
    (Sorry).

  8. That thing has been long buried, looks like it was brought back to the surface from some erosion of the beach. Their is no way it would have been left out and not been picked over and or picked up by the city.

  9. Okay, yeah, if it was buried it would make some sense what's intact and so on.

I'd pick the steering wheel out of it if it's not shot, it looks like it's worth a closer look anyhow. Might have to sawzall it off with the end of the column though.

  10. Really,,think about it,,,the material that the seats are made of not to mention the thread the seats are sewn with would have rotted long before the car got that bad,,HRP

Obviously you have not had experience with Pontiac Morrokide - it could survive a nuclear winter....

From the front view shots, I can't see any evidence of the rear seat... weird.

  14. In 2007 I bought a '53 Skylark that had been wrecked, then unceremoniously turned upside down in the junkyard to cut the front suspension out of it. So maybe 1960? 1965? No way to even know, the guy who would have known had Alzheimers. Granted those have leather uhpolstery, but once flipped over it appeared that with a steam cleaning and restitching the material could have been used over.

A third seat in one of these would have spent most of it's time folded down, just guessing maybe that and the other interior bits that remain were protected from sunlight, which is what tended to make that material become hard and brittle. I was going to re-use '64 Pontiac buckets in my '60 Chevy as-is and that car (the Pontiac) had sat outside since 1971 or so.

Now that "Barn find" is over played, are we going to start seeing " beach find"?

  16. Gotta be a washup. Look at the sand around the car just a few feet prints. If it was there any length of time it would have tourist trails all the way around it.

The tide washes foot prints away twice a day.

  19. Never seen anything like that...

  21. I think it's legit. Photos are from 2010, supposedly found after winter storms on Morro Beach

  22. "I told you, honey, I parked the car right here on the beach! You've been complaining since 1971 that I couldn't remember where I parked our car and I was right all along!"

  24. From the original Flickr pic: "1964 Pontiac Bonneville Rusted Abandoned Station Wagon vehicle on Morro Bay, CA Sand Spit (Morro Strand) - uncovered by winter storms, reported to have been stalled there in 1973."

The photographer states he took the pic in May of 2010 with a camera with built in GPS and he revisited the same spot on 11/2011 and the car was reburied by mother nature.

My guess about the seemingly good looking upholstery against the rusty body is that the salt couldn't break it down like the steel and being that it was buried, it was kept from light. (which we all know UV is the biggest enemy of plastic) The same goes for the wiring coating, core support seal and door gaskets...Look close. They are all there...This aint no Photoshop....

Here is a link to the Flickr pic showing the car's location:

  25. Looks straight outta Ol' Skool Rodz:D

  26. Whomever took the pictures also took the 3rd row seat. It's only in one of the three photos.

If not, then how about a skull and crossbones? No-one's ever thought of that before, surely.

  28. Looks like it should have been in one of the "Planet Of The Apes" movies. You know, what was parked next to the Statue of Liberty when Taylor and Nova rode up!!!!

The seat is there in all the pics- you can't see the upholstery, but you can see the rusted back of it poking up in the pics of the front of the car.
