I have started fixing ugly. This coupe was messed up more ways than needed to be so now it is up to me to try and make it into something. I pulled everything to get the body off the frame and waiting on a few pieces to get started on the donor frame. Cleaned the donor frame of all unnecessary odds and ends to prep for plates and x member. Found a clean rearend that will work nicely with the right width I will only need to change the gearing. Work will be a bit slow till after the holidays then it will pick up to a faster pace. There will be alot of changes to this car by the time I am done! Hope all have a great Thanksgiving!

The frame is solid just needs blasting before doing any welding work.

Savable for sure. But surely needed. Can't wait to see this progress.

You might look into flipping that frame. From the looks of the front crossmember it could be an AR(?) frame and worth considerably more to a restorer. And I think most of the brackets and whatnot should be special forgings as well.

Not sure if the payoff would make it worth your while, but certainly worth looking into.

OR... you just cut it up and make a hot rod out of it.

  8. Please put the coupe roof back on. If you don't you won't be fixing any ugly at all. It should not be too hard to find a coupe body that's rotted on the lower half and a decent roof section. Good luck with your build.

That is part of my plans but finding donor body parts around here is tough! I am looking for a roof for this car. I have also looked into finding a good coupe to set on the newer frame.
The front cross member was bolted in this frame so I could not tell if it is an AR or not.

  10. Good project! Yeah, whoever did it the first time kinda missed the mark - and that's being kind!
Glad it's in good hands now. Keep us posted....

If I can find coupe bodies and ship them all the way to Australia you should be able to do the same :)

    Good luck with it all.

I think I recall your car from a post a few weeks ago - I recall it had a pair of newer O/T bucket seats and some ordinary taillights and it was in need of a 'make-over'.
I'm glad to see you've started so soon and hope to follow along. I hope you had a chance to drive it a bit.
Good luck and have some fun.

I am keeping an eye out for one in the not break the bank range. One will pop up soon I hope.

Yes this is the Ugly one. Seats are having the headrest removed and taillights are changing to an older style (not sure what yet) when I find some I like. I need to hit some good swap meets and locate a few of the hard to find pieces. Maybe even roof parts or whole coupe. I did put around 600 miles on it before I started taking it apart.

  14. Somebody else on here rolled his and intends to replace everything from the cowl back. In Louisiana, so not too far to go. A bent one with shiny paint is better than none I bet. I haven't seen pictures posted of how bad it is though.

I read that thread today. I think to go back with this one is going to test me,my skills and others! But, it's going to take a little time because it needs so much done to it.

The first time I saw this car all I could think of was Archie the cartoon. HAHAHAHA!

I got the frame blasted and started on the process of boxing, welding holes, etc. Trying to locate parts and work on it when I can. This will be a slow part but, I will get there.

Finished the X bracing on the A frame and now I am waiting on a few pieces to finish before I set up the front and rear ends. I can't seem to get the pictures small for the thread.

I found two coupe doors that will aid my project in time. Now if I can just find some roof parts to fix this thing. Thanks Paddi.

Thanks! It is slower than I like but, it will get there.

The X brace is a Dagel's Rods and is really slick. 541-378-4434

You've really made major strides on this one. Frame looks very strong and professional too. Good job. :)

The body will be my biggest challange and finding the parts needed to fix the Ugly will take some time.

Woo Hoo! I found most of the parts I needed to fix the major ugly part of this coupe. The doors from out west and the roof pieces from close by.
Now if I can get the rest of my parts together to finish the frame mock up I will have a new roller to set UGLY on.:D
Here is what I did for Christmas.
