You sure this isn't a CCE...Tuttle car? Looks like Top Gas. Lippy

  2. Question,^^^^^^
The new front motor chassis have the driver way up in the cage. Is that only for better visibility, or is there something else? Seems to me the chassis above would be a better handling car....

Front axle has a large radius bend for the drop on each side. Who did those? Tom S.

My dad's super stock camaro ran a backward snorkel scoop for a couple years 69/70 when i ask him about it said at the time was the thought that when the air turned it would speed up there for pushing more air into the enigine.

  6. The rear facing super stock scoops were designed to pick up the laminar air rolling of the windshield for an accelerated ram effect. If it was the best way, I'm sure the current pro stockers would still be using it. However NASCAR still uses a cowl induction system for the cleaner aerodynamics.

That house was still there when I worked at IRP, over by Gate 8. I think NHRA eventually bought that property, and one of our groundskeepers was living in it when I left.

Mike, Rooman still builds a N/TF car that you sit low in. Brendan Murray has one. Dan Horan has one too. I like to sit low and drive by the guardrails. It is way easier to get out of an upright cage car, but when your on fire you'll exit pretty fast anyway. LOL. There are other reasons maybe Roo will chime in here. On my new car, my butt is below the rear rails. I like to reach out and up to touch the top of the slicks. Sure makes for a nicer looking car. Plus your safe as in your Mothers arms between those two slicks. LOL. Lippy

Tom, I never really paid much attention but your right some had a sharp bend, and some were a gentle bend then there is the SPE which is unique and is a smile bend. Here is my SPE type Roo built. Lippy

Actually, Norm Ries. BB/GD record holder and NHRA Super Eliminator Champ in '68. You're correct though, he eventually turned the scoop around and also added a Woody body. More pictures on the H.A.M.B. Comp Coupe link. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=245188&showall=1

I stand corrected it was "Norm" not his brother "George." There is a Librace' reference in there.

  21. The plexiglass windshield collapsed on an earlier run, which in turn blew out the rear one.

Fortunately his plexiglass bubble shield remained intact! This car would have made a neat AMT kit.

The windshield blew out of this car of ours back when we were kids. The roof went next. Known as learning things the difficult way. Tom S. in Tn.

Your blown Kellison reminds me of a car that ran at Irwindale once or twice. Very cool AA/GS car dubbed Fascination that featured a trap door that enclosed the chute.

I really liked the novelty of this car. In essence its a AA/Comp dragster that maybe had some weight added in order to run BB/GD class. I think the ET mark for BB/GD was softer than AA/C, a class that was owned by Paul Stage.

Few pics from late 60's early 70's, Alberta, Canada. Not sure if they've been posted on here before, I haven't run across them.
Graham Light, Bernie Fedderly, Dale Armstrong, 240 Gordie Bonin were locals who got thier start on these tracks. Lots of big name U.S. racers came up here during the summers.

Dale Armstrong real early in his career.

Not sure on the FED but the cool trailer in the back ground housed an A/F car driven by Gordie Bonin.

I think Jeff Goodwin drove this car, he still races today (Alcohol funny car, Jason Rupert, driver)

    Fire burn out.

    Another Alberta dragster, pretty short.
