56 gasser garage find!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Panneton Bros. Racing, Nov 21, 2012.

  1. it'll be in Lompoc at the Hot Rod Ranch for a little bit getting some work done on.it. When I get it to my place I'll let ya know.

  2. If we go with the 427, my brother Marc recently bought a set of '56 California plates, ( JVE 427)) "Jive 427". There is something goofy about the motor mounts, they are a flat saddle type like you'd use with a Hurst mount, but they're staggered, I' m starting to wonder if this ever had a Chrysler wedge in front of that clutch flight, before our other guy had it with a SBC in it. I do have a fresh Super Stock legal 8 barrel 383 for my 62 Dodge Dart, (which by the way needs to find a new home, hint, hint),as well as some other Chrysler wedge parts, what do ya think?

Pushbutton torqueflite shifter and tower might be an old Art Carr piece.

  9. is that an art carr shifter? been looking for one of those for years.

  10. Yes it is.

  11. Yes, as far as I know. A friend of a friend just had some of the push button plates cast up.

    Nice car.
The seat's is from a Austin Healey 3000 or 100/6.
Strange choice in that car ;-)

  13. For a bad dude 409 you could do some driving. I wish Dart or someone would make new cast iron blocks with modern improvements. I have been looking for a 348 block since they're a bunch cheaper do a 4.00 stroke engine. I made some pistons @ CP-Carrillo where I work for Joe Sherman a couple years ago for one that made 650hp on pump gas with a tickled Edelbrock top end. If you run into Bill Trovato, there in Rochester, tell him Ric said hello. Bill told me he didn't have any trouble from "Sandy", but I'll tell ya you are all in our hearts and prayers, we have a Monday morning prayer group at work and all the east coast is covered in prayer. If you are going to PRICE next week, look me up at our display.

  14. Thanks for the info, what year of Healeys?

His name is Gary, and I believe he said something about that town, I remember the strange name of the town.

  16. I'll find out from Gary, meanwhile do some looking through your photos when you have a moment, if you don't mind.

  17. A Wedge would be cool, too. Back in the day, it wasn't uncommon to see Chrysler engines in all kinds of stuff, including Chevys. The Wedges made good power, and Chrysler (and the aftermarket) made tons of go-fast parts for them that were easily accessable to any racer.

It looks like more and more info is coming out about the car's origins in PA. Hopefully, you can hook up with somebody from back there that can answer a lot of your questions (like what engine it ran with). The car looks to have been built with some pretty good quality, considering the era. A lot of the Gassers built back then were pretty scary compared to today's standards.

That is one Bad Ass car! Do you think the seat bases will pass tech? .............

  27. Capital NO! They are 2 x 6 wood Hoosier stood on there sides, rapped in black tape, and they are a little wobbly now. I've seen the Don Renfro video enough to know these aint gonna fly. Actually one of the first things we are doing is having Denise and Gil Sr. ( the Muro boys parents), Re-foam the seats, and have the boys fab up some period tubing mounts, possibly inside the wood blocks so they still appear to be being used.

I wish it had been here this past weekend we had a killer gasser race at Greer. Had 12 period correct car's and packed the house there is a link on here somewhere. Your new car would fit right in they don't get any more period correct than it.

Front brakes..First thing to come to mind is Girling, I think a UK product..Since Allards used a lot of Ford frames and axles [so spindles too] maybe thats what they were made for..just a thought..
