i have the shittiest version of "luck" there is.... i've been given a promotion and been given a new location, which ought to be reason to celebrate and be flowing over with joy.... and my new commute is three times the old one.... topped off with my (only) daily driver shitting the bed the first week i'm out there. luckily, i have use of a company vehicle for a while, but there are strict limitations on it's use. hopefully i can swing a replacement vehicle this week, but that will mean letting the shoebox go.
not only due to financial constraints, but actually having time to work on it.... i'm left with only Sundays to play with it, and it's just falling farther and farther behind. whatever; it is what it is.

Is the shoebox your dd then? If not let that baby sit till you get on your feet. I go weeks with out even seeing my sedan. You'll regret it for along time if you let her go. Hold tight tough times don't last tough people do.

How about if instead of buying a new dd, you use that scratch to get make your Shoebox a dd and make it a running project? Thats what Im doing with my Galaxie, and I couldn't be happier.

I know the feeling. The last 5 1/2 years have really sucked for me and am currently jobless. I had to sell off one of my projects ( 28 rdstr pu) already which I still regret. Considering selling a second ( 29 coupe AV8 project I have been slowly gathering parts for) and praying it don't get to the point I have to sell the third one( 29 Delivery) which would leave me with no project. Leave the car with one of the Charleston Hambers until you get back on your feet in the new location. HRP

naw, the DD is an O/T Ford. if the shoebox were the DD i'd have baling-wired the shit out of it to keep it going. it's got so far to go before even thinking about it driving... tell ya'll what, though; every car or truck i've looked into so far has had to meet certain criteria.... Ford, rear wheel drive, and V8 powered, pushrod at that, and i'm trying to stay away from EFI and the rest of that alphabet-soup bullshit.

and, yes, after LAST years' debacle, i'm damn glad to have both the job AND a vehicle to use for a while.

i sure as shit don't want to drive my Southwind to work at 5mpg and finding a 34 foot parking place!

'splain it to the man. USE that company ride (like THEY do to the worker bees) as long as possible. Stay on the restrictions to keep good faith. Find a cheap, dependable, milage friendly newer ride 'till your ferd is sorted out fully. At least your promotion did not require knee pads or viking gear. That would truly suck.

  13. Maybe karma says its time for a change .
She will do that , ask nicely first then she will get bitchy about it.
Pass that and she'll beat your ass.

Hope you don't sell the 51, be patient with progressing on it. Hang on if you can for better times, it just gets more valuable by the day. Good luck bro, keep the faith, a lot of us are struggling at this time. Best wishes ~sololobo~

yeah, i was commenting the other day that if i hadn't sold my '61 Falcon i might have had it road worthy in a weekend..... or the '66 Falcon that was ALREADY roadworthy. i do some dumb things, pretty often it seems.

If you're not working on the shoebox, it's not behind... it's only paused in time. :)

Sell the shoe box and dont look back.
I made similar moves back in the 70's and 80's to improve my job situation. Had to get rid of a cherry 28 Ford pickup, an even better 66 Nova HT, a 32 Deuce Coupe and XKE Jag. 40 Years later I have a 40 sedan project and could care less about the cars I gave up.

Dont forget that that job probably provides you with insurance which is a huge benefit these days. Back in the spring I went to the ER with a really bad stomach ache and came out with about an $8000 bill for testing.

Sell the 51 and buy this 53 from me. Just kidding so far I don't have much of a way to get it loaded as there is no frontend or rearend under it. The tractor with the loader that is out at my late Great Uncles ranch does not want to start. it may be awhile before I get it home. Good luck with the new job, hope it all works out for you. nobody'd buy the damn thing if i did put it up for sale. it doesn't have ANY of the popular amenities RV's "have to have" these days. it's basically a trailer with an engine, and a "last resort" emergency item.

  26. "Well gloom despair and agony on on me, deep dark depression excessive misery, if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, . . ."

It is not bad luck or karma at all, it is just life. If you got a promotion and all that why don't you consider financing a driver and keeping your project, it is not like you are going to work 6 days a week and 18 hour days forever. Things change nothing is permanent.

If you don't put a time line for completion you technically can't fall behind. Good luck in what ever you decide. Other option is to sell, save up and buy something a little further along. Infact I have a model A sedan for sale you need to look at.........

For cheap dependable transportation 1988-1998 Chevy 4.3 pickup with a stickshift are about a cheap of transportation as you are going to get. LMC sell parts cheap and they are eazy to work on. And my Hot rods are all Ford powered Fords.

  30. Benn running around in my head all day, I am just glad I found a place to dump it and make room for something else. ;)

Well gee whiz Jim, I thought my life was bad. :D
