Sometimes a hotrod engine is just a hotrod engine Or Anti social behavior with no regard for othets laced with suicidal undertones and desire to cause an involuntary sphincter pucker. Marked display of in difference to conform to standard social norms. Hahaha.
-------------------- Hmm?? If you have any neighbors who drive a Prius, they, in particular, more than the others, will absolutely NOT UNDERSTAND and they will HATE YOU That's reason enough just by itself to GO FOR IT!!! Mart3406 =====
I met a guy at a cruise and he had a blown BBC in his T. He said it made 650HP, but he had never felt it. Just plain scared. He was all about the bragging rights. After I first built my T, I took it on 288 here in Pearland. It was about midnight and very little traffic, so I floored it. Right around 120mph or so, every little bump felt like a curb. Then the wind got underneath and it felt like my car was lifting up. I got off of it and that's as fast as I've been in my bucket. Still had some throttle left and that was my old 305 SBC. I have no idea what she'll do now, but I really don't have a place to try it.
He'd say it's a bunch of guys talking about how big a penis they have or need. But then, he's said to have been a coke head, so.....
Stop that bus! I have a Prius! That's right, and I'm getting about 47 mpg which saves me money on gas. Money I use to buy parts for my cars. Oh and for the traditionalists, it's an old one with 144 grand on it.
I was just out at the shop and seen your '32 amonst the Other killer builds. It's gonna be badass when completed!
Too much motor? There is a story i heard once. "if a hotrodder races and loses the race and dosn't get killed, he'll go and build a bigger motor with more power. Trvguy
consider the truck a test bed for the engine! get it on the street, figure it out, see if you like it or not. if ya dont, stick a milder FE engine in the truck, stick the cammer in a front engined dragster and tow it with the truck! man damn, two hot rods is better than one right!?
i didnt read through all 7 pages, and this probably already has been said.... ..if its a STREET car,, a TRUE street car meaning something you can cruise around town, or hop in and do a couple hundred mile round trip cruise without spending a hundred buck on gas,,, take it home,,,then hop in it and drive it to work on monday...,,then yes, there is such thing as too much motor,,,,when i was in high school, i thought putting the biggest cam, carb boring it out 60 over and big wall headers was thee way to go,,only to realize yes it sounded so much cooler but used so much more gas and constanley had to tune on it,,not to mention how much it took the actuall fun of hopping in a hot rod and driving and wasnt really that much faster...my dad always told & warned me "too much",,but being a kid i didnt listen! haha,,,,, ..so i had to learn on my own,,,,its not about having thee biggest most powerfull motor,,,its all about selecting thee right transmission, rear end gears and factoring it all in with your tire size....and STILL smoke the tires down the block and drive it to work on monday ...i love smoking the tires down the block, getting side ways and basically hauling ass,,,but if the trans, rear end etc, is not set up to match..than its a waste of time,,, on my OT for the hamb 68 camaro, earlier this year i actually de-tunned the motor.(smaller cam) but swapped out the trans and it is actually way faster now,,,too fast now for the brakes,,so that is on my to do list once im done with my 34....(forgot to mention,,,it gets about 4 mpg better now too! )
True Hot Rodding is all about power and performance. If it's bad ass, it will look bad ass. Now there are car show guys that like to look cool. Thats OK. But it ain't Hot!! I'd rather have a new camshaft than a paint job any day....Happy Motoring.....
Back in the days of doing auto glass, I had a bunch of guys in Cudahy (hey dare) wanting me to do some glass work for their hotrods. One guy, if I remember correctly, had a '35 Chevy 3 window I did glass work. While at his house, in his garage he had a blown BBC on a engine stand and next to it, a Model A sedan. Curious about it, he told me that the motor was rated at 1000 hp and it's going in the Model A. I immediately replied, "that's insane". Well, that never happened, but what I was told, that motor went into Bruce from Pro Comp Autobody's Black Willys coupe. Anybody who in the general Milwaukee area, remembers seeing it going down the road while stabbing it - was a hand full! ...and that was supposedly going into a Model A? Obviously, was too much.
Nope never an issue, you can control the gas pedal and the brake. Just because it has all that power dosent mean you have to push the pedal down all the way. I say learn to drive it and apreashate the power.
It's always been my philosophy that : "It isn't what you've got, it's what you do with it that counts."
What's that 70's movie where the guy steals back his funny car and needs to drive it back back to his shop. Stop lights and all. How about the rattrap wreck that was around here a while back.
Might consider installing a bellcrank on the linkage and be able to change the ratio to make it less responsive.
Friend of mine bought a trike with a Buick V6 in it. It was well built, cheap, and only had a couple hundred miles on it. I warned him it was too much motor for a vehicle with 3 wheels that weighed under 1000 lbs. He laughed and said he was already planning how to hop it up. A week later he was talking about how hard it was to corner, how dangerous it was when the front wheel came off the ground at stop lights, and how his wife wouldn't ride with him anymore. He fixed it by putting a throttle stop on it so the throttle would only open 1/2 way. His next plan was to build one with a 4 cylinder 1500cc engine that was lower, better balance and had better suspension. This is basically what Ed Roth went through. His first trike had a V8, the next had a VW 4 cylinder, later ones had Honda car engines that were even smaller. It all depends if you want to drive it or sit around bragging.
Heres' the '66 Chevelle, original SS, 4spd car (i have since replaced the hood with a 4" cowl induction hood); the 6spd i put in it and a couple pics of a BluePrint Engines' 632 when i first dropped it in. I have since sent it to Kooks' for stainless headers and exhaust. For perspective, that carb is is a Dominator - looks tiny don't it.
You can't have too much motor.....but you can definitely have not enough car and/or - (and particularly) - not enough driver!!! A "loose nut behind the wheel" has killed more people than any amount of horsepower. Mart3406 ========================
Basing the folllowing comments on the notion that the OP was serious when he asked "Too much motor?"......... Let's say I have only a 200 ft lb capacity air powered impact wrench (gun) as a tool to fasten things together......... And.....what I want to fasten only requires a 3/8" bolt to do the job. But everytime I apply the impact gun to the bolt it twists off..... Do I have too much torque, or too small a fastener? I have two choices....use a different tool with less torque or upgrade the size of the fastener to handle the available torque.......... So, I try the larger fastener 'cause I REALLY like my 200 ft lb impact gun......so I put a 1" (one inch) diameter bolt in a location that only really was designed to handle a 3/8" bolt in the first place...........can you imagine the jerry-rigging I have to go through to do that? How much I have compromised the usefulness of the original item to accommodate a 1" bolt to accommodate a 200 ft lb impact gun? Might I have been better off to use a tool that applied the needed torque to the fastener that was designed to do the job well in the first place? Ray
Well freud my say that we are over compensating or that we are under endowed. Now he may be a good source of information on male endowment, or he may just have big hands.
