I get these from a guy on FB called "Front motor dragsters from 50's through the 70's". the guy posts a ton of stuff.

 

As I remember, when Tom was at Lions, he was always checking the other gas dragsters and would always talk with the guys. Just regular drag racer.

 

Tommy Ivo could haul! Here he's hauling a. . . er, uh, a pretty girl. Just one of the things he's remembered for!

Elizibeth montgomery's "stand in" as she was called, was my neighbors granddaughter. her name was Linda Kerenchini (sp?) her stage name was Karen Kini (sp?). her father Sill, was the producer for the Bob Hope show. she was also the pretty blond that drove the chevy convertables in the advertisements

1975 i was on a crew laying pipe under the streets for bell telephone. the globe trotters were going to play the nite in the corn palace. we caught the street lite wires with the back hoe frost ripper!!!! needless to say we had a huge hole in the street in front of the corny palace with NO stop lights, when thousands of people showed up!! thanks for the memory....

Dog, I really meant to comment on this FAB pic when you posted it, but so much going on then. Beyond the obviously gorgeous '56 DeSoto 'vert, the photo incorporates so much of what life is, or was, about: Cars, toys, our youngsters (the most valuable resource, after all!), all on an idyllic day caught by a dad or mom with a good eye for composition. Even though this wasn't shot on fine-grain, hi-res film, I still wish to cast a vote for this as one of your threads' INSTANT CLASSICS! (Albeit, a few months late! LOL)

Gary (SWI), being a DeSoto freak, I think this promo shot great, especially
since it's one I've NEVER seen before (I collect '55, '56, '57). I'm puzzled,
though, by the lack of ad copy; I really wonder if this was part of a two-page
mag spread. Top to bottom, there's the new-for-1956 four-door hardtop, the
awesome 'vert, the pink Sportsman coupe, then what appears to be a small
part of a four-door sedan. Hemis all! Does anybody in HAMBland remem-
ber if this is one page of a TWO-page spread?

There sure are a lot of post photos that are quoted over and over with a mixture of some interesting and some totally dumb remarks added. Like, "My Uncle Frank had one just like this except his was a four door and it was blue".
About one half (or more) of the last few pages are complete repeats. Am I the only one who finds this to be a problem with diluting this thread and adding to Ryans bandwidth?
Maybe I'll be flamed for this, but I think we are losing it here, guys. Or maybe I should double up on my meds (prescription meds!!) ? (smiling)

I was thinking the same thing. I love this thread, lets not ruin it.

 

I guess I don't have a problem with it. I go through this thread like reading a Playboy Magazine. I'm only looking at the pictures.

 

Ours got t-boned at an intersection. Left side crunched pretty bad. Dad drove it until he traded for a white & gold '57 Plymouth with clear plastic seat covers. A wonderful additional for summer driving!

 

I was stationed at Vung Tau Airbase from Feb. 1967 untill May 1968 (just after the 68 TET Offensive)

I used to love watching those C-130s with their jet assist (I think Caribous too). We had one C-130 go off the end of the runway once on landing and for some reason it sat there for a long time.

 

WOW! we used to body surf there. The Aussies used to water ski there too.

 

Flatheadguy, I'm with you. There's A LOT of inane, if not stupid, comments and "alternative captions" that really should be left unsaid. I try to just scroll past, but sometimes it's just too much. Maybe I'm getting to be a cranky, get-off-my-lawn, old fart, but I'm cool with "here's a photo I took/scanned/found/harvested and here's the location and date" without too much additional verbiage.

 

Ooops! You are correct. I left the area in 1984. Memory plays tricks on me.
