I too am trying to make a hot rod out of a 38 standard, it's different because it has dropped straight axle, no frills bare bones, no heater no ac.

My RPU is different because I'm building it myself, many parts fabbed by me.

Plus the Y Block power of course :)

It's home built and all steel. Plus it's rare, only 647 phaetons were produced.

Its pretty hard to be unique nowadays. My company car pictured in my avatar is a '50 sedan delivery powered by a 401 nailhead with a 400Sp and Gear Venders OD. Probably not too many like that.

there is never anything new with old cars. but making crap you have laying around or scrounged for free/cheap fit a project is a lot more fun/challenging
than building a dream car out of a catalog (not that any things wrong with that)

mine are different only in my mind

    1. a 1948 Ford business coupe chopped, channeled, 3 window coupe with a rumble seat and electric 912 porsche sun roof (cool in the 90's) 4 inch dropped chrome I beam axle. dearched front spring with raised front cross member. ladder bars coil overs and C knotched rear. 317 lincoln with a B&M Hydro, 9 inch ford

    2. 1954 GMC Chopped, channeled, sectioned, extended cab. with utility boxes. 1960 dodge tail lights with `1941 glass STOP lenses, 1954 Studebaker head light bezels, 1959 DeSoto gold metal fllake steering wheel, 1952 DeSoto front bumper, 331 Cad with tri-power, stick 3 speed overdrive, 9 inch ford. what makes this different is my total cash out lay is just 2 grand. (so far)

Dave pretty well sums it up. There is nothing particularly unique about mine either. But...What makes rods and customs so great is that they are all different in their own way. Each and every one has its own personality.

Mine is old school traditional to a point but drivability is key to me. What makes mine different is that it has all been done by me. Body, Paint, interior. The only thing I did not do is the engine......My wife built it.:D

Mine isn't really traditional, but even if it was built in a 100% traditional manner, it'd still be different.

My 1953 Studebaker is different because it has a Stude V-8 in it.
Everybody assumes they came new from the factory in '53 with Chevy 283s already installed...:D
