Anyway great forum with lots of great reading. That's what I'm of to do now. Cheers John
Thanks mate, I lived in Holland about 30 years ago for a couple of years in a place called De lier. Showing my age now.
G'day and welcome to the HAMB, great to see not only another Aussy but one with a 38!! Where in Melb are you from, I'm originally from Fern Tree Gully/Upwey area. Doc.
That it is! We lived in Monbulk back in the 70s when I was young, my grandfather was the cleaner/caretaker for Monbulk High School. My parents are still in F.T.G. getting around in a red 38 standard coupe. Doc.
I've probably seen it. Do they go to any of the local car shows? I will keep an eye out for a red 38 coupe at the next show. Cheers John
I had 5 uncles that served in WW2. Two returned and spoke highly of the Aussies. Dec. 7 is near and I absolutly welcome you!
There's a bar in Nijmegen which is alot of fun to party at, if you ever make it back. You might get lucky and find me there, someday: http://www.theagenda.nl/v15984_cafe-the-great-pretender.html Back to hotrods. They used to market an underrated (it was the only contemporary reliable Austin sold. The 1.2- and 1.6 liter versions were a catastrophy) pocket rocket here called the Austin Maestro EFI MG. It was developed together with Honda. It used the small lorry engine which displaced some 1750 or so cubic centimeters in the Princess and was carried over to the Maestro as a 2 liter unit with electronic fuel injection. Carbureted turbocharged units were also offered. But suffered greatly from turbo lag. They had Honda 5-speed gearboxes. It had massive amounts of low end torque and I once beat a BMW 6 cylinder off the line with mine. Did they export these to Australia?
Greetings John from the west coast of Florida. Always nice to meet another new person who is also a little Car Crazy!! Best Regards Jimbo
Thanks Fellas, there's more Aussies in here then I thought, looking at the location's of everyone we just might bump in to each other one day. keep an eye out. I have sold the blue XM wagon
