What a piece of history this must be.
Yes, colorized in sections, but I would love to know wheree and when this occured. The spectator parking and the street traffic is too good to be staged.
and the period dress looks right.

Would love a poster of this one.......

This shot was colorized by Rik (Hoving)....he's on the HAMB and I believe he used to sell this shot on his web site. If I'm not mistaken, Rodders Journal did a poster of this sometime in the past.

  12. OK, this is definitely a re-post by certain HAMB member criteria...BUT, it has more info - So there I was, going through this thread (I'm up to page 954 now), and saw this cool magazine cover:

And it just so happens there was a post on Dead Memories Portland (Facebook page) yesterday...that they attempted to build one in my home town - who knew?

Jimi: He-he! Mike you must be a lefty sidewinder like me! I heard that line from my grandad, dad, uncles, ANYBODY who hunted with us!:D

As for this being a MODERN-DAY PhotoShop job, seriously doubtful. Look at the grain & tonality in the photo. The creases. Nope, IMO, this is just like those "Jack-a-Lope" postcards you'd buy out West. They used old-fashioned techniques to create blended images. Bottom line:

VINTAGE SHOT, just as Rocky labeled it.;)

    REPOSTS:

I'll quote myself from a couple of days ago:

"My memory is as bad as anybody's. But, there's getting to be a whole lotta flab in our favorite thread. We really need to buckle down and do a better job of self-policing. Just in pp. 2871 through 2875, there were 15 photos that even MY old brain can remember being posted AND REPOSTED at least two or three times previously on this thread.;) (And, no, not referring to legit quoting of pix for the sake of commentary. Talking REPOSTS = REPEATS.)"

Instead of giving six examples of worn-out pix, just these notorious two have been reposted
    at least a half-dozen times.

Great pix, yes. Not the point, IMO.

We used to self-police and call each other to delete reposts. But, since MetalShapes has been
with us, let's just ask him.:confused::confused:

If he says reposting photos (not quoting for commentary; reposting as though NEW posts) is not the problem that some of us think it is, well, I for one will very happy to drop the matter and move ahead. Whew!

Hilarious, from 1956, posted by Retronaut site member Amanda Uren. :) Thanks, Amanda, for understanding that it's RETRO sexist! My wife has always been willing to get her hands greasy. I think women since '56 pretty much aren't afraid to take on anything.

This thread has now something like 60000 replies and 13000000 views...
    ( pretty damn amazing...)

I dont see how you could not have a certain number of re-posts.

And as far as quoting a post with a pic in it.
I can see where that makes sense so, as a reader, you dont have to go back through the pages to try and find the pic that post was a reply to.

If the pic it right over the reply, its probably not necessairy.

Either way, its probably not a big deal...

I'm more concerned with subject matter that has the potential to explode in a Drama fest.
Specially if it has little or no relevance to Traditional Hot Rods or traditional Customs to begin with.

    Other that that...

Just go with the flow and enjoy the thread... :)

Chris Wild of the site "Retronaut" posted this amazing photo, which I don't remember seeing on this thread before. (Somebody please IM me to remove, if it's been posted!) Wow, the Hollywoodland sign as it went up in 1923, plus a mix of the old and NEW technologies for transport and construction: Horses and mules, along with a diesel crawler!

Originally built to promote the Hollywoodland commercial residential development, the sign only looked like this for a quarter-century. In '49 -- with the sign having served its original purpose:) -- the Hollywood Chamber moved to drop the "land" suffix and revamp the sign as a proud symbol of the area and its moviemaking heritage.

Damn right, John. It cost some quarter-million US servicemen's/women's lives, plus untold ALLIED, PLUS literally millions of CIVILIAN lives. Ghastly though it was, the numbers don't mean much until you see the FACES and read the woeful words of surviving relatives. God rest and keep them all.

    They will never be forgotten.
