Hello everyone I introduced myself awhile ago but I haven't contributed. Made it to the end, it took about a year. I really enjoyed some of the reposts with captions, some are very funny. One shot was slightly out of focus it is a shot of a beautiful woman (brunet) walking past some construction workers. I was hoping for some information on that shot as I thought it might be Denise Diplock's mom.
I also thought that some cars had nice wheels until I saw some of the human (woman) wheels posted here.
What a history lesson, when My daughter is home for Christmas I'm going to get her to help me post some photos.
A big thank you to all who have posted photos, looking at this thread is about 1,000 times more beneficial than any TV programming and is a history lesson much more enjoyable than any I had in school.

This relates to the mid-'50s shots of the hotrodding scene in Winfield, Kansas, as seen,
experienced and photographed by Bill Bottorff, Winfiled resident and a Winfield High
School Viking. Apparently, this was a submission to Bill's 'net site. Though the name
of the submitter is not available, here's the info that accompanied the pic.

Sometime ago, I sent you a photograph of a jet car on display in front of the State Bank
building in Winfield. You took my suggestion and placed it in your "Viking Cars of the
'50s" section and captioned it "The Fastest Car to Ever Drag Main St." I was looking
through some old microfilms at the Winfield Public Library this afternoon, and located
the issue of the Winfield Daily Courier in which that photograph was published: Winfield
Daily Courier, Saturday, July 18, 1964, page 5. I thought you might like to see the caption
that was published under it: ​

"WINFIELDERS CHECK over the "Bonneville Avenger", the 10,000 horse-power car with
the jet engine that will run 3 exhibitions at the Ark Valley drag raceway Sunday. Driven
by Bob Tratoe, Akron, O., the car is being readied for an assault on the land speed record
of over 400 miles per hour at the Bonneville salt flats in Utah. In its exhibition runs, which
begin Sunday at 1 p.m., the "Avenger" will be driven in an effort to top its quarter-mile
record of 242 miles per hour. Time trials at the dragway begin at 8 a.m." (Herlocker photo)

With the first commercially made skateboards appearing in 1959,
more than 50 million were sold between 1969 and '63!

This is also a nice shot of the pits at San Fernando Raceway. The snack shop is still there and there are purportedly some race car pics on the walls. It serves as a swap meet, but the starting line and centerline are still partially intact.

looks like the Alexander Hotel building still stands in Sparrowbush, NY Just NW of Port Jervis along the Deleware river. There is a current business called tha Alexander Motel Kitty corner from the old building. Looks like the main road was moved and the old rt renamed to mainstreet. http://binged.it/UolbFq
