First of all I read tens of pages of people who had done what I'd like to do but did not include specifics or a diagram. I tried contacting a few, but some of the posts were from '03, '07 and I didn't hear back from them.

I recently, just Wednesday, installed a Saginaw '69 3sp+od. I have had the incredible Muncie 3sp+od these last ten years but it was a change for the better. In it's Muncie form I did not use the governor. I used a simple on/off switch powered by the key on/off to the solenoid.

In the Saginaw I would like to use the governor w/o a kickdown either on the carb or under the accelerator. In short, I would like to use the governor to switch on the solenoid via a relay; I would also like to be able to operate an on/off switch to enable the transmission when in overdrive to downshift into 3rd regular.

    30- swiched power

    85- ?

    86- ?

    87- ?

Please don't include any Chevy or Ford or any other manufacturer diagrams as they don't use a modern Bosch relay and they use a kick-down which I desire not to use.

Thanks for all help and experiences.

    Regards,

    Cosmo

This diagram should cover the wiring issue and if you put your toggle in either power input should allow you to drop out of OD by killing the power to the solenoid.

Believe it or not I almost had it. I had it wired close to your diagram above with one exception, I placed my switch between the Governor and pole 85. Be back in an hour to follow your directions.

    Thanks so much.

Your idea for the switch would work just fine also, it will still shut off the relay same as killing a power supply.

My idea didn't work, that's the way I had it wired for a day. I must have been over tired because I went Governor-----oh never mind.

Your way Works! Thank you so much.

    Highest regards,

You might also think about using a switch on the transmission/shifter to drop the soleniod when using reverse: like a backup light switch?

  7. Also most bosch style relays will have the schematic on the top or the side of the relay.

    Good info, quick response!
    Go HAMB!

  9. If the governor is working correctly it will turn off the solenoid under 23 mph.
