This particular image came from me originally, but has circulated the web a lot. I got the photo (and still have it) from a car buddy of mine probably 20-25 years ago that took it while in Berkley CA for college in the early 50s. When it was first brought up on the Tucker images thread there were some questions about where it was taken and was thought to have been taken in Chicago. After much research by Tucker fan 48 it was determined that it was indeed taken in Berkeley like my buddy said it was. He even located the street corner and was able to match the building in the background on Google street view. I have asked if it could be determined what car number this is but have not received an answer.

  19. me too, Al, esp. the square shaped headlamps were short living, but really nice to see, a german example is this coachbuilt Opel Kapitän with a sports convertible body by Gläser, Dresden, shown in early '39 on the cars exhibition in Berlin:

Yeah it would be kinda interesting to see a month by month breakdown of model year sales :D I thought it was worth mentioning the context of a bleak year for the industry.

Robert Cadwallader? and some interesting renderings...

The Airflow model is interesting too in that it's on and not under the bench and was still popping up in patents at least as late as 1940.

    41 mud styles...

Robert's other stories of the week are well worth a look too :)

Me too :D I've long considered 39 to be a peak of Detroit deco style and metal stamping (poor old Canadians found diecasting more expedient).

I think the Auto Avio Construzioni 815 aka 'first Ferrari' and Opel Admiral used the Kapitan's lamps too.

Norm was so far ahead of the curve, I think that he put that curve out there for us. Just the coolest.
