Jean Harlow. Funny how someone who died tragically so long ago could burn her image into the brains of people who see even a still photo of her all these years later, isn't it? One of the most prominent of the so-called "platinum blondes" of the movies' Silver Screen, Jean died of a ruptured appendix in 1937 at just age 26, back in the days before the antibiotics that might well have saved her life. Take Mary Pickford's audience appeal, add
a dash of innocent sexuality, and you've got
Fay Wray, a young woman in the right place
at the right time. Fay was already a star of
the Silent Era -- including hit movies with
the famous director Erich von Stroheim --
when the hard-working actress got the call
from David O. Selznick to play the heroine
in the movie she would be best remembered
for, "King Kong" (RKO 1933). Few know now
that, in her heyday, Wray's proportions and
contemporarily popular look meant that she
was in steady demand for fashion modeling,
in addition to her movie career!

 

In her autobiography, Fay Wray said that blonde Jean Harlow was
the first choice to play Ann Darrow in fledgling RKO's soon-to-be
blockbuster hit, "King Kong." But when MGM's tight contract pre-
vented Harlow from being loaned to RKO, Wray donned a blonde

Huh? Well, yeah ... uh, I guess if you say so! LOL. Hey, let's face it. Our
love affair with commercial advertising (and, often, almost blind obedience
to it!) IS NOT because it depicts life as it really IS. It's because it shows life
as we'd LIKE it to be!

It's been said that money is the root of all evil, right? Irony is the soul of wit,
and necessity is the mother of invention. Well, if all those truisms add up to
some great cosmic insight, then I'll add one:

Advertising is the root of most "necessity"! They create a sense of necessity
-- not just casual desire -- for what they're selling. LOL. Come to think of it ...
how did we possibly survive and thrive before we had advertisers and govern-
ment to tell us what was best for us???

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this,... I found it between the pages of an old book, Circa 1959 A boy and the bestest pal a young man could have,.... "Hobo, the wonder Dog"... That young man was crazy about all things related to Hot Rods,.... Hobo passed away while that boy was overseas years later,.... That young man became an old Hot Rod guy, and hangs out on a Traditional Hot Rod sight........ Hobo was the very best Dog ever ! (so I'm told )

What a find, Harms Way! I'll be you (I mean, your friend) were
surprised and happy to run onto the old pic. Isn't this what Dog's
thread is about? Me, I think we and the one's we love (pets TOO)
will see eachother again ... down the road.

Wasn't this street used in the movie Mad Mad Mad World ? Right at the end of the movie when Spencer Tracy makes the bust. I admit it's been a long time since I've watched that movie. There were some neat automotive scenes, including the one with Phil Silvers sliding his Ford convert. down a river. And Jonathon Winters destroying the gas station- garage.

 

In 1962 Dick Dale swept the charts and most of southern California with his Radical Surf "Left Handed" Guitar -Dick Dale Rock & Roll Legend, and Surfer & Biker -on his vintage 1941 /45 Harley Davidson..
