I'll bet that thing pulled rough, swayed bad with the car on backward like that. Engine puts a lot of weight on the rear.

How many years until Weiand and Edelbrock would make plenum tunnel rams commercially available? Looks like to me the intake ram tuning knowledge would have been used to scavenge the exhaust on this car also.
These guys still had a shop near here until recently. Must be with Doug Nash in the Caymans or some where now.

These two guys probably had a lot more influence on the tunnel ram design than the earlier High & Mighty.

Ralph Ridgeway came on the HAMB for a while and kind of got told he was full of himself, so I don't think he hung around.

Vic Edelbrock looked at Carroll Caudle's intake and was interested in developing it. Caudle sent it to Edelbrock and they ended up cutting it up to look at it. Kinda pissed Caudle off. Edelbrock sent Caudle a wooden prototype to check out. Last time I heard it was still sitting on a shelf at Caudles place.

I think Edelbrock marketed the first commercial tunnel ram in 67 or 68.

And they looked just like Caudles and Ridgeways box plenum jobs. I always thought Caudle did the r&d for Edlebrock, but didn't know for sure.

  17. Here's Dennis at the '61 Winternationals, I had thought this pic was from '62, but I met a guy at Mooneyes name Phil Smith who took a pic of the '56 at the '62 Winters, it was already painted red with radiused wheel wells, but no hood scoop, so this old black and white has to be from '61. At the '63 Winters, Dennis went to the semi finals in little eliminator and broke the the distributor rotor leaving the starting line. If he had won, he would have had a '61 '62 '63 '64 sweep. denniscocker.jpg

  18. Would anyone know where this was taken? It looks like high desert so, would guess Palmdale but, just a guess

  20. I would bet money Palmdale/LACR

Similar body work as Yellow Fang, but this one is an Eddie Hill built car (the little front wheels are a dead give away). Looks like Green Valley.

Muttley, THANKS, so many cars, some famous and some unknown...it is the unknown ones that I appreciate (since I was an unknown myself)...probably the only national recognition these guys got...thanks again for taking the time to post these pictures.

The last car that Jeep Hampshire drove. Crashed at OCIR and nearly cost him his left arm.
