Scott, Do you have any idea what that big thingie is hanging off the front of the rear axle third member is in the fourth picture? I've never seen anything like that on a drag car. It looks like it is held in place by a strap. Any ideas??? 6re6
6RE6: Not real sure, I think it's an early trans brake?!?!? The car was built like a little flip top funny car, here's the thread.... The Chevy 6 With a V/8 Head Punch!
Wow that's very not typical. It looks like it has a Clutchflite (I ran one for a while in one of my altereds) but with a manual clutch I don't understand why they would run that through a trans brake. Maybe it was used for staging the car. It looks a little like a pinion-mounted brake. Many racers used a slider clutch (I did) with the Clutchflite and with that pinion brake then might have been able to set the air gap on the disc tight and not get any creepingat the line.
My only other guess might be a planetary step down unit like a Lenco so they could switch from 1/4 to 1/8 mile racing gearing with the flick of a lever?
Partsman, I set up an account at Photobucket.com and uploaded my pics there.Once you do that they have a list of links to copy and paste.I use the last one, just right click to copy the link then right click to paste the link on your post.
I have read on another forum that Clem LaChance (aka The Mad Frenchman) had past within the last week.My condolences to his family and friends, R.I.P. Sir http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VSNHj0kOUI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epuw26k--hs http://www.neto-nostalgia.com/biodetail.cfm?id=20
I don't care if this one has been posted already. It's Hudson powered, and thus bears repeating. And a vehicle I'd love to duplicate one of these days-
Its true Clem passed away last week. He was a regular fixture in the north east and will be sadly missed. A true innovator, and an east coast hall of famer. Gods speed Clem Pat
Partsman, Merry Christmas to you aswell. Hope everyone else has a Merry Christmas also. On another note, I have to say this thread is great and thanks to all who have contributed to it.Please keep the cars and history comin! Rich
Found some more of Clem's cars over on Classracers & Dover Drag Strip, They all speak very highly of him.... <!-- content table --><!-- open content container --><!-- // Start Welcome Headers // --><!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) --><!-- / registered user message, not alliance member -->
